Both! Many years ago an old researcher (alas no longer with us) Assured me that that there were four Bowden brothers who left Scotland to go to Northern Ireland circa 1600's. One went down to the South of Ireland where there is a town called Bowdenstown. Another brother went to the Carrickfergus area, one went abroad somewhere. I don't know where. The last one settled in County Down which is the one that I am descended from.
