    3. I have been working on my Bowden line for more than 10 years.  William and Jesse Bowden came to Twiggs County Georgia in 1808 or earlier as my ggg or gggg grandfather, Matthew Bowden was born there in 1808 when Twiggs County was still part of Wilkinson County.  Twiggs County was established from part of Wilkinson County in 1809.  One of my problems was that the Twiggs County courthouse burned circa 1903 and all records were lost.  Matthew was the son of Jesse based on census records that only gave the ages of children in the household and one of the male ages fit the age of Matthew at the time of the census.  Getting past Jesse has been my brick wall for a long time, at least until I had my YDNA results compare against one other person who has traced his genealogy back to John and Molly Bowden.  Assuming that the his ancestry is correct and our DNA shows and common ancestry 10 generations back that puts Jesse, William and Matthew right on center target with his genealogy.  I would feel more comfortable it I had more YDNA results pooled from other descendents of John and Molly Bowden.  One of the problems is that there appears to be several Jesse's and William's that are cousins or uncles to my line.  I think YDNA is to tool that is needed to completely break down my brick wall.  Any help from the Bowden group here was be greatly appreciatee. 3. I agree with Wayne Bowden. The DNA is a great tool that can help point us in the right direction in our searches. My Uncle, George Bowden, was the one Wayne Bowden was able to make a connection with through the YDNA matches. My Bowden line goes back to John and Molly Bowden through their son, Elias Simpson Bowden, who settled in Fentress County, Tennessee, after his service in the War of 1812.
