    2. Hello Ardie, Some of the research on this Bowdon family is so confussing that it is hard to believe. I have never found a will for Travis Bowdon s/o William Bowdon and Elizabeth "Betty" Travis. In this family "Travis" became a name that they used a lot. In William Bowdon' will he states that he has three sons. John, William and Travis. 1. John Bowdon married Judith Farrar. Their children were named John Bowdon, Jr., Nancy Bowden, b abt 1766, Elizabeth Bowden b abt 1768, Sally Bowdn b abt 1770, Mary Bowden b abt 1772, dau b abt 1774, Martha "Patsey" Bowdon b. abt 1776, Francis "Fanny" Bowdon b abt 1778, Rebecca "Becky" Bowdon b abt 1780 and a son b abt 1788. ref: Louise B. Johnson "Virginia Historical Magazine" Vol. 38 p. 193 2.William also states that son William has a son named Travis. This son Travis was born abt 1776. William Bowdon and Martha......other children... Martha "Patsy" Bowdon b. 13 Nov 1768 NC, Mary Bowdon b abt 1769, Elizabeth Bowden b abt 1779, John Bowdon b. abt 1772 moved to Richmond Co NC, James Bowdon b abt 1774 moved to Randolph Co NC, Josiah Bowdon b abt 1780, Pleasant Bowden b abt 1782 moved to Conecuh co AL. 3. Even Sarah Bowdon who married William Nichols named a son Travis Nichols born Mar 1749 Granville Co NC. 4. Travis Bowdon left no will and the name of his wife or wives has never been found. This Travis lived most of his life in Grandville Co NC where you find him on the census records and in the land deeds. After 1800 he is living with son William in Randolph County, NC. Travis' had a son named Travis Bowdon Jr. b. abt 1753 Granville Co NC. This Travis married twice...Mary .... & Pennelopy "Penny" ...... There is also a estate settlement dated 16 Nov 1805 in Kershaw Dist. SC. Travis Bowdon Jr. had a son named Travis Bowdon III plus Simon, Joshua, John, James, William, Mary "Polly" - son William Bowden moved to Randolph Co NC, son James Bowdon who married Priscilla Williams, Thomas Bowdon, d, Francis Bowdon, Josiah Bowdon moved to Randolph Co NC.. Ref: Sodke and others family histories, Claims of Britsh Merchants after the Revolutionary War, and Abstracts of Granville co Deeds 1746-1765 Ransom McBride. This Bowdon family is not my family. I come from John Bowden of the Isle of Wright Co VA. His sons moved to Franklin Co NC. I have done a lot of research in Grandville and Franklin Co Court houses and have never found a connect between the two families. Wish that I could have been of more help but as you can see there were several Travis, William and John Bowdens in the first 3 or 4 generations and it gets very confusing. 2. As a descendant of John Bowdon and his wife, Judith, I would like to caution those who report that her surname was Farrar. I accepted that name many years ago, and spent years tracking the Farrar family back forever. Then I learned that the same Judith Farrar, daughter of William Farrar of Granville Co, NC, had married Jesse Hays (Hicks, Granvillel Co., Marriage Bonds, lists Judith Farrar's marriage to Jesse Hays, 8.4.1796). At that time John Bowdon and his wife, Judith, had been married over thirty years. John died about 1831 and Judith died in 1827. I have copies of both their wills. Based on this incontrovertible evidence I sadly deleted the Farrars from my pedigree.
