Jean. I've looked at the Hugh Wallis -middle names- site and, like you, was surprised how many Devon folk have BOWDEN as a middle name. It seems that it will have to be guess work to try to establish which family might be connected to RBH. I might look at some of the earlier families and try to track them down to my George HALL. I'm interested to see that your family came from Ireland. I had not connected the name with that country so that gives me something else to think about. Thanks again for you interest, Best wishes, Peter BullGuard Anti-virus has scanned this e-mail and found it clean. Try BullGuard for free: www.bullguard.com
Hello again Peter, Thank you for your e-mail. I thought you might like to know that my Bowdens originally came from Scotland. There were four brothers who all went over to Ireland in the early 1700's. One settled in Carrickfergus, one settled in the south of Ireland where there is a town named after him. (Bodenstown) the third one who was my ancestor settled in the Ards Peninsula County Down and the fourth one emigrated to America. By the way I have discovered that the spelling of Boden and Bowden was interchangeable. See below the gravestone inscriptions of two brothers who were the sons of my G-G-G-Grandfather. So it would be advisable not to dismiss the Boden spelling as the person could belong to your family. I hope this helps. Jean. *1757 - 9th March 1796 Aged 39 years* *Andrew Boden of Craigantlet* *Two brothers -**Note the variant spelling of the surname.* *1763 - 1st March 1824 aged 61 years* *William Bowden died 8th August 1824* *? - 1763: William Boden died 19th November. I believe this is my G-G-G-Grandfather*. *All three buried together at Movilla Cemetery. * *I believe this is the father of the two brothers opposite.* On 10/07/07, Peter Wood <petwood@waitrose.com> wrote: > > Jean. > > I've looked at the Hugh Wallis -middle names- site and, like you, was > surprised how many Devon folk have BOWDEN as a middle name.
