Hello List is there anyone out there related to our "Uncle Sim" Family lore says he was a band director in Indiana I believe. Mable Clare was my great grandmother. She was married in Guadalupe County, Texas in the 1890's.
Pat, I think you are one of my husband's cousins. I communicated with Marilyn a while back when I first started my research. The last I knew, she had become discouraged because she couldn't find Robert Henry Bowden's parents. Has she (or you) solved that problem? My gg-grandmother was Mary Jane Bowden, 1842-1913, who after being born in Middlesex county of Ontario, lived her whole live in the Bayham Twp area of Elgin Co., Ontario, married to (and outliving) Jonathan Silverthorn. Her parents were William & Fanny BOWDEN (Wm being born in USA according to the 1851 Ontario census) and she had 3 additional siblings that I am aware of: Sarah, Elizabeth and GW (or George), born btw 1844-1850. I was stone-walled until recently with a bad inter-pretation of Mary and Jonathan's marriage certifi-cate, misreading her last name (and that of her parents) as PANTIN instead of BOWDEN. Having finally seen the actual document (actually mispelling BOWDEN as BOWDIN) I am in communication with the Ontario gene-alogy group to get this typo corrected but more importantly am assured of Wm and Fannie and their children being Mary's family, as listed in the 1851 census. Would certainly love to connect with anyone else who is tied into this family and can help me pursue these links further. My family tree records show Nancy Wiggins married to William Bowden (son of Travis Bowden). She had a son named Thomas. Sharon
Hi Joan, I am out of town but will be back shortly after Thanksgiving. I don't have many of my Bowdon names with me but do have extensive materials at home. I do know that my Thomas married Parmelia Jenkins. I have them in the census records at home. Perhaps Thomas married Nancy Wiggins first. The names that you mention for Thomas' children are intriguing because I remember the John O. and seem to remember the name Travis and Jordon. These could be coincidences who knows? Give me about two weeks and I'll look at my Bowdon records. Thanks for writing, Karen On Thu, 16 Nov 2006 13:29:29 -0800 Joan Gipson-Fredin <jgf@cox.net> writes: > Hi Karen, > > I have Thomas N. Hi Harriet, Could you please tell me where my Bowdons show up on the family tree that you have? Does it go back to Thomas Bowdon or his siblings or Thomas' offspring? If so, could you tell me which one? I am trying to find a Benjamin Bowden in North Carolina late 1700's. His son, Bryant, was my 3Xgreat grandfather. All I have been able to find is that Bryant Bowden was born in North Carolina, married Rosa Purtle in Bibb Co, AL, 1825, moved to Mississippi early 1850, then the family of 11 children with spouses and children of their own in some cases moved to south western Arkansas where they settled. Bryant was killed somewhere near Memphis,TN. Any help greatly appreciated. I have checked out many North Carolina Bowden families and cannot make a connection. Pat

Hi Tom, We too are from the William Bowdown line of Granville, NC. Would like to hear more about what you have on him. We come through his son James who ended up in Putnam/Monroe Co., Ga. We'd sure like to tie to the John line of Va. -- but can't find the proofs either. Maybe there is someone out there who can help!!! Ardie In a message dated 11/16/2006 3:22:35 P.M. The transition from the BOWDOIN spelling to BOWDON/BOWDEN is one I cannot confirm. I cannot trace a connection from the Virginia BOWDOINs to the North Carolina BOWDON/BOWDOWN/BOWDEN line, and I have seen no documentary evidence that my William BOWDOWN of Granville Co. Hi Karen, I have Thomas N. Bowden b. abt 1800 as the eldest son of William Bowdon (b. abt 1773 in North Carolina; d.1842) and Nancy Wiggins (abt 1776-1860). The parents died in Coffee County, Tennessee, having settled in a part of Bedford County which later became part of Coffee. I'm descended from Thomas's brother Travis (b. abt 1810, d. 1850).
