    1. Re: [BOTTORFF] BOTTORFF
    2. Janice, I own Va Faust Batdorf's book also. My grandmother was a Bottorff..pronounced Putoff in southern IN. Probably a desc of Martin Pottorff and Eliz Coons. I'm on vacation and don't have my stuff here. Will have to look at your link when I get home Cindy in a message dated 7/8/2008 8:59:15 P.M. Eastern Daylight Time, [email protected] writes: Hi, Cindy :-) Thank you for contacting me. My direct line is actually BATDORF. However, BOTTORFF and other spellings are connected to us. Most of my BATDORF-BOTTORFF info originally came from Virginia Faust Batdorf's book, The Batdorf Family History (©1990 by Charles R. Batdorf). I am trying to verify as much as possible as I have time. Unfortunately, my genealogy research has suffered greatly the past couple of years because of moving almost two years ago . . . . . another move is planned for the end of this year . . . . . with church activities, health problems, etc. thrown in for good measure. I have the beginnings of a BATDORF Descendant Outline posted on our CUZNS FAMILY TREE site. _http://cuznsfamilytree.bravehost.com/descendants/b/batdorfdescend_janice.html _ (http://cuznsfamilytree.bravehost.com/descendants/b/batdorfdescend_janice.html) Please let me know if you need more than what is posted on our site and I'll try to send it as soon as physically possible. 1. [BOTTORFF] (no subject)
    2. ____________________________________ Hi Cindy, Today is the first time I have been home long enough to look at notes. The sheet you sent on the family of George Washington Bottorff agrees completely with the 1850 Clark County, Indiana census, family #247. George is 42, farmer, born in Ky. Elizabeth is 37, born in Ky. There are 9 children in the household. The names and ages agree with the sheet you sent. On the sheet for William F. Bottorff, I agree that he was the father of Allie who was the 3rd wife of John Bottorff. I feel sure she is the spinster cousin Mrs. Ballensky heard about when she was a young woman. After John Wesley Bottorff died, Allie was living alone and next door to John ’s son, David, in the 1920 census. Her father was living close to them. I have some census records where Allie and a couple of the kids were still at home, but I did not have all of the children’s names. Thanks for that additional information. On the John Wesley Bottorff chart, I know he first married Jane Reed in 1857 in Clark County, Indiana. I think they moved to Wapello County, Iowa to live next door to Jane’s folks. Both families were living next door to each other in the 1860 census. I believe all of John’s children were by Jane before she died. Mrs. Ballensky told me she talked to a very old relative who said Thomas was a baby when Jane died. She died of a massive heart attack while she was holding Thomas on her lap. I was not able to find a marriage record for John and Emeline. They must have married some time between 1874 when Jane died and 1880 when the census was taken. I tried to find a census where Emeline was still living at home. She would have been about 25 in 1870, but I did not find her listed. Zelpha Ray told me her records show that Emeline’s maiden name was Mowery. I could find nothing under that name either. I did find a Walter McMullen family living in Keokuk Co. in 1920 with Emery Bottorff, a son-in-law, in the household. I have no idea if Emeline could be a part of that family. Walter was just 46 in 1920 so he would be too young to be Emeline’s father. I just thought it was interesting that there is a connection to the Bottorff family. I thought perhaps if I could trace the family of Elizabeth Graves, John’s first wife, it might lead us to information as to whom John’s father might be. Zelpha says she is fairly sure her records are correct. She shows John Bottorff who married Elizabeth Graves, then Emeline, and then Allie as the son of Jacob Joseph Bottorff. In case you don’t already have it, I will forward a copy of her chart. In a previous note she told me she thought John Bottorff was the son of Andrew Bottorff. She doesn’t say where she got this information, but she says everything I have is definitely wrong. I have been under the impression John Bottorff and Elizabeth Graves divorced after 1840. It may have been before that, but there is a John Bottorff in the 1840 Clark County, Indiana census. I thought he was the same John Bottorff who married Lucinda and lived out his life in Washington County, Indiana. Elizabeth married Jacob Deuser in 1845 and had several other children making them half brothers and sisters to John Wesley Bottorff I know David and Thomas Deuser moved to Wapello County, Iowa and lived with or near John in some of the census records. Zelpha says they moved from Wapello County, Iowa to Kentucky where she thinks the older John Bottorff lived. I find it hard to believe they would move to Kentucky to live near their mother’s first husband when they were not related to him in any way. She said they later moved back to Clark County, Indiana where Elizabeth and Jacob Deuser died. Patsy **************Gas prices getting you down? Search AOL Autos for fuel-efficient used cars. 2. Patsy Yes that fits with the cemetery rec I found for Oscar + kathlyn. I have been working on your emails from the earliest till the newest one but probably should have looked at them the other way. I see you already found the John/James vernon Morgan family. Mary Ballensky is d/o Lon 1899-1968, s/o David I see why I couldn't find John Wesley in 1850. Is the David Deuser age 20 in 1870 cen w John + Jane a half-brother? OK I found them John Duser 12, David 0...he'd be 20 in 1870, Eliz 32, jacob 31, mary E 5 John Bottorff mar elizabeth Graves 29Mar1837 Clark Co IN Elizabeth Bottorff mar Jacob Deuser 11 May 1845 Clark Co IN (Graves is another one of my branches fr Rand Co NC Jane Graves w/o Randolph Boling d 1860 Was Co IN) In your research what details did you find that gave John W as s/o Martin?? Not to sound like a broken record...but I have no PROOF of Martin + Eliz Coons Pottorff issue. I've made up my group sheet fr circumstantial evidence. I "think" their son John mar Jane Gilbreath 1825. In 1818 Eliz Coons Pottorff was c 46yr old....possible...but how about this Jeff Township, Wash Co IN Cemetery:Old Rush Creek. He was confined to bed only a few days w pneumonia. His wife preceeded him about 18 months, since which time he had severly mourned her loss, seeming to have no pleasure in life, which is thought to have at least partially caused his early demise .(note probably the s/o Andrew + Jane Hoke Bottorff. There are 3 pages of Andrew obits. They list a son JOhn but no Samuel. Is Samuel , John's biological brother or spiritual Brother like John Fultz?? I have a Samuel Bottorff mar Sarah Crank Was Co IN 1846 which I can't ID either. Samuel was b 1825 KY. Martin + Eliz Coons had 2 more sons 1810-20 which I have no clue. Andrew didn't come to Wash county till 1821. He had a son John but nothing more in his obit about John. I've always assigned John William to Andrew but never read carefully that one obit about brother samuel. I've looked and looked and can't find John + Lucinda in 1850. have you?? 3. Cindy, Helen Irene Bottorff Roop married Oscar Chiarini. They moved to Portland, Oregon. When I spoke to Earl Bond a few months ago he told me when he left Ohio he moved to Oregon to be near Helen's family. He said he often did some baby-sitting for her. He said she had 4 children. On another occasion when I talked to Earl he thought it was his sister Louise who was adopted by the Beck family who had 4 children. Helen and Oscar divorced. I believe she may have remarried and maybe to a man by the name of Thompson. Oscar's second marriage was to a lady named Kathryn. 3. Subject: [BOTTORFF] Clell Bottorff family {The next child was Earl Lewis Bottorff, age 2. He was adopted by the Albert Bond family. The 1930 Iowa census lists Albert Bond, his wife Millie, and Earl Bond, age 7, living in Jackson, Keokuk, County.) Earl is still living. He lives in Dayton, Ohio. I spoke to him on the phone several months ago. He is in a nursing home and suffers from dementia. His daughter, Peggy Bond, lives nearby. She knows very little about the family since Earl went to work one day when she was just 5 months old, and he never returned. When Peggy was grown and had children of her own she wanted her children to know their grandfather. She started a search through Social Security and located him. She wrote to him, and he moved to Dayton to be near her. He lived with her until recently. Albert Bond b c 1882 OH s/oJOhn H Bond + margaret Smith (IA State cen 1Jan 1925) wife Millie (Millie's maiden name was Bacon) Just recently I made contact with Miles Bacon, her first cousin. Millie was very depressed so Albert thought it might help to adopt Earl. Earl told me when I spoke to him on the phone that they were very good to him. I havn't found any other info on Earl. There were a couple of marr + divorces in TX..with the right age Earl Bond but nothing to show a connection w ours. This may very well be the same Earl. Peggy thinks he was in Texas at one time, and he was married before he married her mother in Dayton. {The last child was Frederick (called Jack), age 1 year. His Uncle Jim Morgan took him. They may have lived in the Des Moines area.} I find John Morgan and Nannie/Namie (This is Nancy, called Nannie in most of the census records) Her maiden name was Sanchez. 3. Cindy, thanks for submitting this information. I can help some.I really appreciate all the help you have given me on the Bottorff family. Patsy In IA Ceme rec I found a John W Bottorff 1837-1914 and a Jane Bottorff 1835-1874 Wapello Co IA. Are these the parents of Wm H Bottorff who married Jessie Sheets? Yes, this is correct. 1925 Ia State census lists a David M 1863-, wife Anna as s/o John Bottorff + Jane reed.Yes, Sarah was their first child and then David M. 1860 cen Wapello Co IA. John 23 IN Jane 24 IN, Sarah 2 IA. Jane died in 1874 while Thomas was a baby. John was listed with his second wife, Emeline, in the 1880 census. By 1880 Sarah is married to James H. Moore. David M. is listed as Madison. Arzilla and Mary Jane are still at home and William and Thomas were born before Jane died. Living in their household in 1880 is Thomas Deuser, age 24. Thomas Deuser is a half-brother to John W. Bottorff. They shared the same mother. She was Elizabeth Graves Bottorff Deuser. 1910 cen keokuk Co IA, D M Bottorff (David) and Anna next door to John W Bottorff age 43 or 73. I looked @ the original. the 4 is on top of a 7. If it's a 73 then b 1837 which fits for John Westly. wife Allie age 52. Emeline, John's second wife died about 1907. John Wesley Bottorff married Harriet Alice (Allie) Bottorff in 1908. The 1910 census says they have been married 2 years. William Franklin Bottorff s/o Geo Wash Bottorff + Agnes, had a daug Allie that married a John Bottorff. c 1908. Could this be John Wesley Bottorff as a second wife? This is his 3rd wife. John died in 1914, and Allie was living next door to David M.(John's son) in 1920. Can anyone fill in any more details on John Wesley Bottorff and jane reed's family? Jane had a massive heart attack in 1874 while she was holding Thomas, her baby, on her lap. John married Emeline who had no children, but according to information from descendants she was a good mother to John's children.
