Do you know if we can still buy the two books compiled by Maxine Blankenhorn Bennett -- "The Batdorf Family" & "The Walborn Family" published in 1984? If they are still available, how do we get them? 1. [BOTTORFF] Andrew J, Jr & Erastus B.: Kokomo
    2. Merri Vinton
    3. I stumbled upon this article about the brother of my g.grandmother, Ruth Emily Bottorff of Nebraska, in historic newspapers on Ancestry.com. The piece is about of Andrew J. Bottorff, Jr. and five generations of descendants. I thought was worth passing on. Kokomo Tribune Kokomo, Indiana pg 9, June 4, 1930 RELATIVE OF KOKOMO RESIDENTS IS ELDEST OF FIVE GENERATIONS Few are the families that may boast of five generations livining. One of these few is the family of Andrew J. Bottorff, pictured above. Mr. Bottorff, who is a Civil War veteran and lives at the soldiers home at Sawtelle, California, is a brother of the late E. B. Bottorff, long a figure in the affairs of north Kokomo. Andrew J. Bottorff was reared in this state and went into the Civil War at the age of twenty, enlisting with the 17th Indiana as colorbearer, remaining in service throughout the war without injury or sickness. The first breech-loading cannon ever seen by the Union Army is now in a museum at Indianapolis with his name inscribed on the barrel. Shortly after the Northerners captured Macon, Ga., Bottorff became suspicious of a newly dug grave in the smallpox cemetery located on the outskirts of the city. He received permission to investigate and found the grave containing four, new, shiny breech-loading cannon, which were of great value to Union gunmakers. At present Mr. Bottorff is experimenting on a gasless motorcycle and is also engaged in making women's handbags of knotted fishcord. He is in the later eighties but enjoys good health. For a number of years he was a resident of Tipton county but went to California many years ago. Three yeas ago, shortly after the death of his brother, he visited relatives here. In the picture with him are his daughter, granddaughter, great granddaughter and great great granddaughter. The picture is available through courtesy of the Los Angeles Express. E. B. Bottorff died in this city three years ago after spending forty years in the grocery business in Kokomo. The location now known as Kingston's corner was long known as Bottorff's corner because of his grocery there. His children are Mrs. Floyd Imbler, 800 East Jefferson street, Miss Ella Bottorff, 416 East Monroe Street, and Charles Bottorff, 416 West North street, this city. ------------------------ Note: The article does not name those in the picture--his descendants. It also doesn't mention that Andrew J. Jr. was one of the first settlers of Stanton Co, NE ( 1865-? when he apparently went to CA); His brother, E.B. is Erastus Barton Bottorff whose children are named. My great grandmother, Ruth Emily m. Wm. H. ALLEN in Washington Co, NE. They are the 3 of 7 children of Andrew Jackson, Sr. and Elizabeth Ann MILLS. I have more information on this family. Regards, Merri Allen Vinton
