His father Samuel i am stuck with, why was he there apart from the war, who he married. You certainly have got the right part of the world. The Ryburn Valley is west of Halifax in the Pennines. Ripponden is a small township in the valley bottom. A few miles further up the valley is Rishworth. Cotttonstones is a hamlet on the valley side, near to both places. Unfortunately, the people you mention do not appear to be connected to my family tree, at least not closely. The whole area seems to be full of Bottomleys and Lumbs, both in the past and now. If you wish to find out more about the area please don't hesitate to ask. Regards. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. His parents are Hannah Wood and Samuel Bottomley, all four buried in adjoining lots on the corner of their family farm, in southern Minnesota, USA. Several other sites mentioned Oldham, Lancashire, England. I have done some searching in Sweden and the word CROFT means a farmstead where the family lived, so wonder if that can possibly play into this name even though it is England. Good luck, Jeanine Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
