There are Masonic connections with my Bottomley's as well. My line came from England and eventually into Michigan. In England Elijah was a Tailor. Interestingly enough his sons were masons by trade. There are several homes in Michigan and one that I know of in California built from the ancestors of my line. milyde@yahoo.com, if we would like to talk more. I have traced john Edward Bottomley born 13 4 1852 at Grantham . his father was William Bottomley 1803-1877 and mother Jane Harmston William B's father was John Bottomley married 26 4 1796 Ancaster to Phoebe Clark 1775-1841 Emma Kibbles parents were John Kibble born 1846 married to Elizabeth Ann Hill I believe John's parents to be George Kibble born 1825 and his father to be James Kibble of Freckingham Suffolk If we can email direct I can send you full details but cannot send pictures or charts etc on ancestry. Author: DocHines Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.bottomley/125.1.1.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi Michelle, I am now sure! as I have spoken to Lorna my sister in law. Both her parents have been dead many years now. She remembers someone coming from Bristol on a moped in the early 1960s to see his Aunt ie her mother Mary winifred nee Bottomley. Lorna was only a child but remembers her parents being very reluctant to discuss family affairs, it seems they gave him a meal and sent him on his way. Lorna believes the family feud was something to do with Emma Bottomley nee Kibble being put in a home by some siblings without consulting the others! I am sure now that this visitor was Peter's father Brian. Please reassure them both that Lornas attitude is very different and she is keen to make contact again after nearly 50 years. i think I have posted a similar message to your Peter on an ancestry message board. Do please trust me enough to email me direct so we can share more, my email address is dochines@btinternet.com Very best wishes Ken Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: DocHines Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.bottomley/125.2.2.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi Kathryn, I decided to look at this a bit further to see if I could find any past link with our families. I appreciate joseph is only your putative father but thought you might like what I have researched on your Joseph born 4/7/1920 at Salford. His parents were Joseph Kibble born 1896 Salford and Gladys Bottomley . they were married in Salford 1920. In the 1911 census Joseph 1896 was aged 14 and living with an Aunt and Uncle ... James and Ada Wass in the 1901 census we find Joseph with his parents who are John Kibble born Staffordshire 1863 and Lydia born Norfolk 1870 folowing the trail back Johns parents were William kibble born 1837 Gnosall Staffordshire and Elizabeth born 1839 born in the same place.. I have not tried to get back further yet with Kibble Turning now to Gladys Bottomley 1874. She was the daughter of Samuel Bottomley born 1873 Salford and Jessie who was born in 1874, Samuel Bottomley born 1873 was the son of Samuel William Bottomley born 1837 and Mary born 1838 The 1891 and 1900 census confirm the family structure in 1901 Samuel senior was a case maker and Samuel junior a clerk they lived at 38 West Clowes st Salford So you see no sign of any connection yet with my Emma Kibble who was born in Lancashire and married to a lincolnshire Bottomley. Emma's parents being John Kibble born Freckingham Suffolk and Elizabeth Ann Hill born Cambridge, John was a stone quarrier and moved to Lancashire to work I am happy to research this further if you would like me to If you would trust me with your direct email I can send attachments etc. Sorry for the long post Kind regards Ken Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: kathrynwilde10 Surnames: Kibble/Bottomley Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.bottomley/125.2.2.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi Ken, No problem, I am not even sure that the Joseph Kibble I am searching for 4/7/20 is the correct one. I sent for his death cert but the info on the family in Manchester seems to come to a halt. I am actually adopted & Joseph Kibble is named as 'putative father' on social services docs from 1951. The only info is Joseph Kibble aged 30 of 4 Wild Street Salford. After extensive enquiries (I actually paid for someone to find her as she had changed her surname) I found my birth mother & she refuses to acknowledge anyone of that name, he is certainly not named upon my birth cert. I'll just keep looking. Many thanks anyway Kathryn Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. This is very much a Manchester/ Salford family. Joseph William Kibble born 4/7/1920 was son of Joseph Kibble born 1896 Salford and Gladys Bottomley born 1900 They were married in 1920 Gladys Bottomley 1900 was the daughter of Samuel Bottomley 1873 and Jessie 1874 Samuel Bottomley 1873 was son of Samuel William Bottomley born 1837 and Mary born 1838 see 1901 census RG13 P3738 F148 P14 and 1891 RG12 P3229 F4 P1 The Emma Kibblle in my family was daughter of John Kibble and Elizabeth Ann nee Hill and granddaughter of George Kibble and Mary Hope that clarifies the situation I amsorry our hopes were raised wrongly Best regards Ken Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. We do not seem to have corresponded since my reply to you in july 2006 I know that Emma Kibble married John Edward Bottomley in 1902 at Spitalgate Lincoln. Family legend suggest there were lots of children. Mary Winifred Bottomley was born in 1919 and was probably the youngest. She is the grandmother of my brothers wife. She lost all contact with her siblings. I think I have found some . john edward B 1914, Elizabeth May 1904, and Robert Harrison Kibble 1902. I now wonder if this is your Peters grandfather. I believe he married a Louisa Emma Lake who died in Bristol . That matches what you say in your message about the family going to Bristol. If you recognise any of this please get back to me as clearly your Peter and My sister in law are second cousins I look forward to hearing from you Ken Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: DocHines Surnames: Bottomley Kibble Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.bottomley/125.2.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Dear Kathryn, Yes still very much involved in researching this family and you may just have the solution to a 20 year search. Mary Winifred Bottomley was born in Grantham in 1919 and was one of a large family of children who seem to just disappear and we have not been able to discover descendants from any of them. There were lots of Bottomleys in and around Grantham and Ancaster near by. Several of the men worked in the stone quarries. Your Joseph Kibble could well be a brother of Mary. Marys parents were John Edward Bottomley and Emma Kibble . Do you have a copy of Joseph Kibbles birth certificate? If he had the same parents it would prove the connection If not one of us needs to get a copy If you wish to contact me direct I will happily share all my data. My email address is in an earlier posting I am excited by this and look forward to hearing from you Ken Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
