Jo (Joseph William) Boocock b1845 and Jane Boocock(Depledge)b1855 brought up Lavinia Bottomley b1897 as their own daughter after her mother Elizabeth Ann Bottomley sister to Jane(Depledge) died age 42 (Lavinia was 3months). They changed her name from Lavinia Bottomley to Annie Boocock because they already had a daughter called Lavinia. At age 18 she was told about her birth mother dying and she changed her name back to Lavinia Bottomley. She was my grandma... My Fathers mother. She married Alfred Weatherall, they had Roy (my dad) and Frederick. Jo and Jane lived at Harmony Cottage (next door to Rustic Cottage) in Glen Road, Eldwick, Harmony is no longer there. It was formely the residence of Abraham Holroyd. In 1910 Jo age 55 was a stone miner, Jane age 46, Lavinia (own daughter)19, Walter age 14, (Lavinia Bottomley) (Amelia Bagshaw, sister (widow)?)and border William Simpson all lived at Harmony Cottage. In 1881 Jo Boocock, Jane and children were living in Eldwick Beck hamlet, living next door to the beer house (Travellers Rest.) So I don't have a proper family connection to Boocock apart from Jo and Jane bringing my grandma up as their own child till age 18 . I hope this has been interesting for you. My brother and I went to see these places last year. I was born in lower Baildon and now live in Devon. My two brothers still live in Baildon and Bradford. They lived in Baildon for many years and kept a corner shop there. She died around 1970. Fanny's sister was Clara who lived as a spinster in Great Ouseburn. I don't know what the relationship was to the Boococks you mention but I imagine there's a tie up somewhere. It appears he was having an affair with Jane Depledge whilst still married to his first wife Eve Smith and continued to have children with Jane whilst still married. Eve died in 1893 and Joseph married Jane almost immediately after. In 1881 he has left his first wife, who has to look after their four children including a 2 year old son, and is living at 7 Ireland Street, Bingley where Jane and her sister are noted as boarders. What is your connection to Joe? Thanks, Guy Boocock Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
