I will ask my mum again about the Hall but I'm sure theres some links from there to Maria Gascoigne. As said, we were the poor relations. There were large garden parties and the like that Amelia sometimes got to attend, and they got high quality clothing hand outs etc. I just couldn't find the connection, but its hard when you are going off half remembered fragments. I got the impression that it was thought Maria married beneath her station. If there was a definite link to harewood - that line could be traced way back, so I was kind of interested to see if there was indeed merit to it. I think there was a photo of Amelia once - but Ive just been through some photos recently and didnt see it. She was a scary looking lady when she was older from my memory of the photo. I do have ones of her daughetrs when they were younger though which I can scan for you if you send your email. Email is scaramallion@ntlworld.com Would be good to see one of Pliny, thankyou. For some reason I thought you were still in Yorks. My gran moved to Manchester from Yorks and I live just down the road in Bolton. My aunt lives in Fleetwood so this side of the Boococks are also Lancastrians now. Will be weekend probably before I can scan anything, thanks for the info though Anne Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: guyboocock Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.bottomley/225.1.2.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Oh right. Hello cousin! Yes, Maria Gascoigne was their mother and her parents married at Harewood, but what's the connection with the Hall? I noticed that no one above commented on the fact Joe was having an affair with Jane DePledge whilst still married to Eve Smith. The censuses clearly show that he is and also having children with her until Eve died. I really only have solid info on Pliny's line, and a photo of him. To get any further back than John and Anne would probably mean having to go to Yorkshire because I've found it quite difficult to find John's parents (though I suspect John and Grace Spencer) on familysearch. Such sad circumstances for Amelia and her children. Do you have a photo of Amelia? I can send one over of Pliny. He moved to Morecambe and married a local woman and had 4 3 daughters, 1 died, and 1 son. Lucky otherwise I wouldn't hold the name! Author: scaramallion Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.bottomley/225.1.2.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: im from Amelia 's line born in 1870. She was my great grandma. Amelia died in 1947. Weird thing is that I had her mother down as Maria Gascoigne (b. 1832) which made me unsure it was the same one, but Enoch seems a bit of a character!! Pliny is such a rare name it has to be the same line though! Any info you have on Enoch's line greatly received. I have the census's going back to John and Ann, Enochs parents, and thats as far as I got. Amelia had three daughters and it was quite tragic. Florence died aged 4 saving her baby sister from falling down the cellar steps (which meant she fell down instead) The baby she saved was called Evelyn. She died in childbirth in 1932. My mother was the daugher of Alice Maud born very late in 1911. Amelia also lost a boy (miscarried) when she saved a child from being crushed by a horse and cart.
