    3. >There will also be a Bottoms Reunion of the Thomas Jefferson/Cora >Talulah Bottoms clan next summer July 4th weekend. Location is >Scottsboro, Alabama. This reunion happens every three years-- and >has happened for as long as I can remember! These families are >descendents of Burrel and Sarah Bottoms (circa 1756), and James >Madison Bottoms (b. 1798, d. 1866). If anyone needs info, please >email me at DHGN0A@prodigy.com. Thanks-- Jewel Wellborn Dear Jewel, Thanks so much for your notice about the reunion. I won't be able to come but would like to ask you a couple of questions. Is this the Burrell and James Bottoms that lived at one time in Barbour Co. AL? There was a Burrell Bottoms whose brother (I'm pretty sure it was James but could have been Tomas) went to Texas. This James/Thomas left a legal document in Barbour CO. AL giving his "destitute borther, Burrell" and his family use of his property in his absence. I have the document and cannot seem to put my hands on it at the moment, thats why I'm vague on the brother's name. I have a bunch of other information on these Bottoms and am anxious to connect with someone researching them. I can't tell you the date of the document until I find it. My great great grandmother was Frances Bottoms Sims, married to M.R. (Malachi Reaves Sims in Pike Co.GA on Dec. 22, 1842. They migrated to Barbour county after my great grandfather, James M. Sims, was born in about 1845. Frances had a sister living with them, Mary A. Bottoms in the 1850 Barbour Co. AL census. She was a few years older than Frances. Frances' only living daughter was named Mary A. so I am assuming she was named after her aunt. They had a total of 5 children: James M., Mark W., Mary Ann Elizabeth, John M., and Sarah Frances who died at birth. It is interesting to note that your Burrel's wife was also a Sarah. So, many clues and nothing deffinate. After Frances died in child birth in 1853, M.R. moved to Newton in Dale Co. AL. This was also the home of a Dr. James Bottoms, a very early settler in the area. Archives lists his son, one being a Burrell Bottoms. Bottoms was not a common name and since M. R. and Frances lived near the Bottoms Brothers in Barbour Co. and M. R. moved to the very county of the brothers father, I am inclined to think that these Bottoms are related to Frances. Perhaps brothers and father or cousins and Uncle. Do you have any thoughts on this and do these Bottoms fit in any way in the Bottoms line you are representing? Would any of your Bottoms families had two sisters, Frances and Mary? I'm desperate.
