    3. First let me say that when I said Nancy Jordan was an Indian I was mistaken. I mixed her up with a Mary Catherine Jordan That married a John Bottoms is Alabama. I apologize for any misinformation that I sent out on the list. Some Months back and about March 1998 I sent a letter to a Ralph Bottoms who lived in San Diego. It the time I thought he was my wife's cousin that lived in California and who had previously lived in Japan for about 20 Years. Again I was mistaken as to his actual identity. Below is a transcript of the Letter I received from him. >From Ralph Bottoms concerning the family Genealogy. I am the son of Manual Bottoms. I am not in possession of the John Bell Dozier, but I do have a copy of the book "Bottoms Family in America" I had a grandmother named Catherine Bottoms who was an Indian and I remember her well. She was very straight and tall and was the owner of a large track of land, half of Dale County Alabama. She divided it among her sons, John, Jim and Manual and others. I believe there were maybe ten. John was the eldest and he bought the others out for $5000. each including my father. John had a son named Jim, my cousin. He graduated from the Naval Academy in 1929. He came to visit me at the training station as I joined the Navy that year. He was later executive officer of the USS North Hampton. Page 2 I enlisted in the Navy in 1929 and served twenty years. I was first on a Battleship and then transferred to Submarines. I was at Pearl Harbor when it was attacked. We began patrol runs in Japanese waters. As Chief Petty Officer (I was) in charge of the crew - (about 80 men) I had many responsibilities. I won the Silver Star which is the 3rd highest award given by the government. My Grandfather was John Wesley Bottoms, his wife was Mary Catherine Jordan. She was married twice the second time to Billy Bottoms. She had a son named Sammy. I knew him well. He had four children Addie Bell, David, Mathis, and John. Both I and my wife Eleanor are in our eighties, so would not be able to travel to the Reunion. We are blessed to be able to help each other, have a very comfortable modern home, and a son, two daughters and four grand children who take fine care of us. /s/ Ralph Bottoms. 3. James, If Catherine (Nancy Jordan) was in the family known as Leaping and Trot (now Liptrot) then I believe she was my great-great grandmother. They may have been Creeks. The John, son of Sammy, below was my father. Is Ralph still around? I have a few pictures of the people that he mentions including Catherine and Addie Bell. I believe Mathis has died. -John William Bottoms (Jr) Concord, Massachusetts James E Lantrip wrote: > First let me say that when I said Nancy Jordan was an Indian I was mistaken. > I mixed her up with a Mary Catherine Jordan That married a John Bottoms is > Alabama.
