    3. I don't know about the rest of you, but I really enjoyed the latest discourse that we had. I know that a lot of times, we may not have much to say. But I'm on quest to get us all tied together somehow and someway. Thanks for all your comments and input. Let's talk a little bit more and see if we can get some of these things worked out. Harvey

    1. [BOTTOM-L] 1830 Census, Rutherform Co
    2. Thomas Baird
    3. Debbie, Harvey and Group In spite of my reading column number for house number the data mostly fits for Sterling H and John R to brothers and probably sons of Old John. In 1830 Sterling H shows to have been born between 1800-1810. The 1850 census indicates 1803. His wife shows the range 1810-1815. The 1850 census, county copy indicates 1812. In 1830 John R shows to have been born between 1800-1810. He was dead before the 1850 census but his wife, Nancy Jordon, shows the range 1810-1815. The 1850 census indicates 1812. Their oldest son John A shows the range 1825-1830. The 1850 census indicates 1829. His birthday was Aug 1829. The only flaw would be Old John. The 1830 census indicates the range 1760-1770. The 1850 census indicates he was born in 1775. Paschal, whom I think is a brother, was born about a year after Sterling. Wilson county is adjacent north to Rutherford county. His children's names indicates same family. One of his sons was Sterling. Another name to throw into the mix is the Pilon family. With John R dead in 1850 and Nancy living with her brother, John A is living with the Pilion family. They were cousins of the Bottoms family and were also from VA. Some of the Pilions were to AR with the Bottoms. John A's sister married a Smith in AR and when she died Mr Smith married one of the Pilion family. Harvey, Paschal will be a mark on someones census in 1830. If he was not the head of household he was only a mark. His oldest child was 38 in 1850 which may indicate a marriage about 1831. My thinking may be all wrong, it has been before, but I think we are getting there. Thanks again Debbie for your work. Tom Baird

    3. I have created a Download page. at www.wtgsoc.org/bottoms Take a look and if you choose to participate fine. If you do not that is fine to. The main thing is that the data shared here is FREE and should not be sent to profit making or Commercial Companies that ask for your data for free and then charge others to see it or download it or otherwise copy it. I invite comments and etc: This is the only time I hope to see the above URL on the list. But this was the fastest way of letting you know about it. The List is yours so take an interest in what goes on. Ask questions, Make comments, Our goal is the same, to gather complete and accurate information on the Bottom/Bottoms families.

    3. Hi fellow Bottom hunters. Our membership keeps growing daily. So I thought I would give you some information about improvements at Rootsweb. Several new search engines have been developed.and for folks like us. The one I wish to discuss to day is the list search. The URL is http://searches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl You should bookmark this one. Nearly all the mail addressed to this list has been archived. With the above URL you can select the BOTTOM-L list. After that you will be able to search the entire archive and retrieve viewing options. I suggest you try each one to get a feel for what each option contains. Example If you wanted to find all archives about Paschal Bottoms you would enter "Paschal and Bottoms" without the Quotes You would then be presented with all the entries that contain both names. If you want to see all the archives about Bottoms then just enter Bottoms and you will get them all 50 at a time. The above Search URL will work on any List have fun and Enjoy. 3. Debbie, Thanks, I appreciate it. I don't know when I will be getting back to the library and if I can't find Paschal with the Keas, a number of my family's theories will be shot to smitharines. After reviewing my data, it could be possible that Paschal and Margaret were married in the 1830 census and mother Kitty still was keeping household. By 1840 the children were grown and Kitty went to live with the children. 3. Does anyone know if the 1830 Census index is on the net so I can look up this information? If not, could someone see if they can find a KEAS or variant (KIAS/KEYES). I know that a David KEAS had a family in Rutherford County. He died in abt 1818 and in 1840 census his widow is living with Paschal BOTTOMS who married one of their daughters. People whom I believe to be Paschal's brothers and father were on the 1830 Rutherford County census but no Paschal. I didn't think to look for the KEAS while I was at the library. It dawned upon me that the 1830 census might have him helping the KEAS and being there when the census was taken. I don't think he got married until about 1835 and purchased land in Wilson County. So I am not sure they would be in Wilson or Rutherford. I would appreciate any help someone might give me on this.
