It has a chat room for your group. It allows you to maintain a in-depth profile of each person. You can set up your information to group them. In my case, I used the sub-lines as my grouping. JOHN ALEXANDER BOTTOMS b. 1 Aug 1829, Rutherford Co, TN, s/o John R Bottoms and Nancy Jordon; d. 17 Mar 1910 at Opposition, AR, and is burried in the Opposition Cem.; married 23 Sep 1857 in TN to Minerva Jane Crouse b. 8 Mar 1833, Rutherford Co, TN, d/o Harmon George Crouse and Mary Ann Murry; d. 8 Feb 1907 at Opposition, AR, burried in the Opposition Cem. They had the following children: JAMES BOTTOMS b. abt 1859 in TN died bef 1870. MARY BOTTOMS b. 1861 in TN, d. 1871 in AR, burr. Opposition Cem. JOHN W (Johnny) BOTTOMS b. 1 Dec 1862 in AR; d. 3 Jul 1911; burried in the Crossroads Cem near Portia, AR; married 27 Aug 1884 to Tennessee Watts b. abt 1869. WILLIAM (Pete) BOTTOMS b. 16 Aug 1865, d. 11 Sep 1937; never married; bur. Opposition Cem. JOSEPH BOTTOMS b. 6 Feb 1871in AR, d. 21 Feb 1955; burr. Opposition Cem.; married 10 Jan 1894 to Mary (Mollie) Holder b. 1876; d. 1959; burr. Oposition Cem. SARAH (Sally) BOTTOMS b. 25 Aug 1873 in AR; d. 9 Oct 1957; burried Opposition Cem; married 10 Feb 1892 to Henry Deyling b. 11 Aug 1864; d. 18 Feb 1950; burried Opposition Cem. Some notes. The Bottoms moved to the Portia area of Lawrence County, AR, after the birth of James but before the 1860 census. They went back to TN (I believe Gibson County) for a year. Mary was born there. My mother thought James died there since his grave is not marked in the Opposition Cem. All I know for sure is that he did not make the 1870 census. When they came back they lived near Opposition, Lawrence County, AR, a town that no longer exists. Anyone looking for the Opposition Cemetery should start at Ravenden, AR and ask for directions. The cemetery is still active. They were back in time for all the other children to be born near Opposition, Lawrence, AR. All but James and Johnny are burried there. I can somewhat do the families of all those who had families. My ancestor is Tom Bottoms. I have details on that one. Tom Baird

    2. Keith, I have received your rootsweb posting. As of right now, I cannot tie my Bottoms line directly to yours, however, some of my Bottoms relatives went to Texas in early 1900s, and it is believed, though not verified, that they went there to join other relatives who had been there for a much longer time. The only areas that I know about at this time are near Dallas and Fort Worth. My mother was born in Benbrook, Texas, which now is a suburb of Dallas, but in 1917 was part of a very large ranch. My grandfather, James Alfred Bottoms had gone there to work as a carpenter. His father was John Alfred Bottoms of Cullman, Alabama. It is possible that he went to Texas about this time, or had been there earlier. Please stay in touch and I will let you know of any information I get which may be related to your lines. Sincerely, Arlene Hampton Birmingham, AL

    1. [BOTTOM-L] Information from the List Manager.
    2. Jim Lantrip
    3. Dear Cousins: Recently I received information on the Establishment of the Bottom/Bottoms Family Association depository Lists serviced by Genweb and housed at Rootsweb. Bill Bottoms who manages the Bottoms home page initiated the Boards. The purpose is to categorize the information that YOU contribute for others to see. Its called sharing. Although I do not know who ultimately owns the information placed there, It is free for all to see, copy and use. No strings attached, that is to say, its in the public domain. I believe that if each of us will just cut, copy and paste information we already have it will be a benefit to all of us and even to those who might be interested later. Additionally This will help Bill in that he will not have to maintain all the categories information. For some reason Bill's messages to me have been rejected by my IP and My messages to Bill have been rejected by his IP. I guess we will have to go get a free Email acct some where so that we can communicate. I do not know what the problem is but it appears to be consistent. The following URL will help lead you to the Family Association Lists of Not only the Bottoms but to any that exist of other Surnames. I figure the URL to the Index is better than the direct URL to Bottoms. http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/indx/FamAssoc.html Happy Bottom hunting Jim.

    3. Dear Jewel, Thank you so much for contacting me. I am particularly excited about hearing from you because in over 20 years you are the first person who possibly thinks that my Frances (Bottoms) Sims might be related to this particularly Bottoms family. Since I have never come up with anything concrete directly connecting her, I have looked very hard at their, (Malachi and Frances (Bottoms) Sims, surroundings wherever they lived. And sure enough, in every situation, this same Bottoms family turns up near them. Did you have any thoughts on the Mary A. that lived with them in Barbour CO. AL at the time of the 1850 census? She and Frances were both born in SC and she was only a few years older than Frances. Do you know where in SC this Bottoms line might originate or come from? Have you come across any Sims connections in your Bottoms and Hartsfield lookings? Frances and Malachi had to have some association with the Hartsfield's since they were married by J.H. Hartsfield in Pike CO. GA. Yes, Jewel, I deffinately intend to keep in touch. Please let me know if you find out anything on Frances' connection. 2. In a message dated 99-02-12 19:39:07 EST, you write: << drches01@pop.uky.edu (Donald Chesnut) >> Hello Don! I also descend from this family. My fourth great grandmother was Mary "Polly" Bottoms. ---------------------------------------- 4. F Child: Mary "Polly" BOTTOMS Birth: About 1774 Spouse: SMITH ---------------------------------------- I was wondering if you had any other information on her. I had her name listed as Mary Briggs Bottoms - married to Rev. Thomas Smith 6/12/1797 in Jefferson Co., TN. Do you know if she was married once before - to a Briggs? Do you have any information on her children. Rev. Thomas Smith was a pastor in a church in Cocke Co., TN for over forty years - and even preached a surmon on his 100th birthday. I had her children listed as: John, James, Mary, Lyddia, Thomas B., Sarah and Thomas L. (Thomas L. Smith appears as a "child" on the 1850 Cocke Co., TN census in the household of Thomas and Mary Smith - it seems unlikely though, that they had two sons with the same name of Thomas, doesn't it?) I can definately trace my ancestry to Thomas L. Smith - but still am unsure if his parents were actually Mary Bottoms and Rev. Thomas Smith. Thanks much for your help! Julie Walters
