Hi everyone. . . I can identify Lena Pearl, she was my great aunt. So obviously her dates are wrong! :):) First her name is Elenor "Lena" Pearl Bottom, altho' every census and every family record except the bible says Lena. She was born in 1873 in Cooper Co., Missouri and Died between 1950 and 1953 in Nevada, Vernon Co., Missouri. She is the daughter of Sanders Russell Bottom b. 1845 in Perryville, KY d. 03 March 1895 in Cooper Co., MO.; m. Mary Elizabeth Wynn b. 07 January 1849 in Tennessee; d. 27 February 1922 in Cooper Co. MO. Children: William Thomas Bottom; b. 17 December 1868 in Perryville, KY; d. 08 Aug. 1920 Alonzo Demaree Bottom; b. 1871 in Perryville, KY; d. 1953 in Fallon, NV Elenor Pearl Bottom; b. 1873; d. 1950-53 Sanders is the son of Thomas Bottom and Sarah Jane Russell... Mary Elizabeth is the daughter of William W. Wynn and Marth P. Brake. Mary Elizabeth married James H. Rennison after the death of Sanders. If anyone needs more on these lines let me know, I can flesh them out some. I also have photos of them and photos of most of the cemetery markers. One of Alonzo's sons wife is still living, I'm going to visit her in June hoping to gain more info! Point of clarification... but can anyone address the history of the BOTTOM vs BOTTOMS families? I read that we may have all been from the English surname LONGBOTTOM. As a Bottoms research novice (under 4 years), I propose the following observation: In the 1600's to 1700's colonies (notably around VA), Longbottom was shortened to either Bottom or Bottoms. But once the family name changed, there is little evidence that it ever changed back or forth between the two, other than an occasional gravestone or document typo. In other words, once Bottom becomes Bottoms (or vice versa), there is no reason to look more recently down the time-line for a connection between the two families. Jim, I have identified the William who is Thomas L. BOTTOM's brother -- am hunting for his uncle. The William BOTTOM/S I am hunting was the brother of your and Steve's ancestor, George Washington BOTTOM/S. I have seen this William (b. about 1828 in TN at age 22 in Hamilton Co., TN Census of 1850.) Then he goes off the scope. If you, or anyone on this list, comes across him, or any unidentified William BOTTOM who might be him, please let me know. We are tied double to Thomas's brother William F. ("Bill") BOTTOM as his wife and her first husband were Steve's ancestors. George W. SNOW's widow, Mary, on 10 July 1881 married W. F. ("Bill") BOTTOM, (10 Nov 1855-16 Jul 1889). (The licence says she was 35, ie, b @1846; however, other records indicate she was 39 and born in 1842.) Bill was son of George W. and Matilda (HALE) BOTTOM. W F BOTTOM and Mary are buried in Snow Cem, Lawrence Co, Ark Betty Jim Strickland wrote: > Just a point of clarification on the four William Bottom(s) I posted > yesterday. Barbara, Thanks for the clarification. In looking through some other notes, I found a much younger William who d 5 Oct 1849, in Marion Co AL, and I suspect that the age at the time of death in the published source was incorrect.
