Hello All List Subscribers as I am sending this to all the lists I administer: I know we have been very, very quiet lately and I am sure it is due to the Christmas season. However, I would like to let everyone know about a potential problem lurking. As you all know there have been a rash of virus warnings and in many cases so many that we sometimes become numb to them. I myself have recieved 2 attempts last night. This particular one is listed on the page for virus hoaxes, however: One woman I know received it and put it through her virus scan and it said it was ok. She can no longer use her computer. The 2 I received one was from a list I am not on, and the other was from me addressed to me. On this one the actual background of the message is aqua and there is a link in the middle of it in red letters something regarding StuartMessages and they always have an attachment. The thing is this one will use a subject line that you have recently sent out so that it will be a topic you will readily opened. The 2 I received one had the subject of "marriage lookup"(as I had recently made one) and it appeared to be from the mailing list I made it to. But on looking at it better it was from myself to myself. I deleted immediately without opening the attachment and then emptied my deleted items folder. I am sending this warning to all of you as I know how tempting it is to see mail with a subject matter you have been waiting for in answer to a much wanted query. Please, please check both the address and addressee before opening any attachments. So far these have been limited to some of the state and county mailing lists and I have seen none on any of the surname mailing lists. Just be careful. We all receive a large amount of mail so we need to be aware. Tim Pierce, the Chief Hacking Officer has sent out a message regarding this particular virus within the past week. Debbie Carter

I am looking for information about the English origins of William BOTT, born in England in about 1796. He came to the US after 1826 with his wife and one year old son, George. The wife's name was Frances, maiden name unknown. I found a listing of seven BOTTs that came over on the ship Hugh Johnson, to NY arriving 11 June 1828. The only names were William, age 37 and M. age 32. The other ages were 1, 26, 26, 28, and 32. Three of the latter ages would correspond to my William(32), Frances(28), and son George(1). Does anybody recognize the first William, or the ages of the other BOTTs? Does anybody have a hint as to where various BOTTs were living in England in the early 1800s?
Does anyone have any info on the parentage of Hermanus Bott??
Hi Everyone! It's time to wake up and search!! I am wondering does anyone have any data on the arrival of Hermanus Bott? I found something on the net and it sounds as if the other 2 with him may have been brothers. I will include what I found any info will be appreciated. Debbie Carter ListOwner Hermanus Bott was among the Palatines imported on the ship Loyal Judith, James Cowey, master from Rotterdam. Hermanus was 46 years old at this time, also listed as being on the ship were Peter Bott,35 and Hans Emrich Bott,42, undoubtedly these were relatives of some sort. They are listed as being qualified September 2, 1743.What does "Qualified" mean?
Does anyone know the place of HERMANUS BOTT's burial I had it and I think I misplaced it Thanks Debbie

I received some interesting info on Hermanus Bott if anyone is tracing his line and wants this please email me
Hi Listers It has been called to my attention that I should have clarified a message I sent yesterday. In attempting to generate some postings on the list I asked that instead of posting just the regular surnames and brick walls that you post names married into the family. What I MEANT was: for Example: I have an EPHRAIM GOSS married to ANNE WORKMAN when posting to the GOSS-L list I always list the spouse, but since it is a Goss list, people(I myself) tend to zero in on the one with the surname of the list. Even though I know a great deal about this ANNE WORKMAN I still don't know her parents or dob.Mormally I would have to subscribe and post her to the WORKMAN list (or whatever list). I was trying to give everyone an opportunity to list them on the main surname list (GOSS, with the one above) so to maybe get some mail going on the list as I know it gets tiresome placing the same old names on the list and never getting response or info. This was not to replace the main names or on a permanent basis, but just to generate some conversations here as our lists are getting very quiet.Sometimes in posting, a person may notice something they didn't before. Sorry for the confusion. Debbie Carter--Listowner
I am researching the HERMANUS BOTT line I am descended from his son Rinehart and through his daughter Maria Catherine I understand that Hermanus founded Bottstown Pa and I would be interested in any info relating to this event.
Hi everyone If anyone has or find an exceptional website for the research of this surname then I will include it on the GenConnect page, I have a few on other lines that I couldn't do without but none for these. Thanks Debbie
Hello Listers and Welcome to the new Subscribers-- I thought we might do something a little different Instead of posting our main surnames and brick walls Let's post those name's that marry into our main line, you know the one's that may not have the same last name as this list. This way maybe someone would have some info but you could obtain it from this list instead of 5 others.Just make sure to specify who these persons are married to. For the new subscribers, if you want to post your lineage under the main surnames that would be great and maybe we can help. Thanks for posting in advance Debbie Carter list owner

Does anyone know what the term "Qualified" means when it is used in conjunction with immigrants coming into the country?
Seems all of our Botts are elusive Creatures! Wondering if any of these names ring any bells: Johann Adam BOTT was born Feb. 11, 1779 in Hinterweidenthal, Germany. I have been wrestling with my mother's paternal line for some time, the same line that my aunt, an avid genealogist, found a dead end. The surname is PUTT, but I have come to believe that the name was originally BOTT, BOTH, BOTS, or something similar, spelling being what it was. In the 1760's to 1780's there was at least one Henry BOTT (var. sp. on both first and last names) and his wife Elizabeth having children being baptized at First Reformed Church in Lancaster, Lancaster Co., PA. I believe one of those children was my ggggrandfather Jacob, whose name I have seen spelled variously, including POTH. Does anyone on this list know of Henry (Heinrich, Hendrik, etc.) Bott (Both, Bots, etc.) in Pennsylvania?
