    1. [BOTT] TIP #9- FAMILY PHOTOGRAPH PROJECT
    2. Debbie Jennings
    3. Here is a great project to instill in your children and to involve other family members in the family heritage. Sounds like a lot of fun and the younger members will learn something also. If your projects takes multiple sittings, then later on down the line see if some of the younger ones can tell you who people are by reviewing some of them. Eventually they will be able to! Family photographs are excellent reminders of people, times, and events. Most of us, however, probably have loads of loose photographs in boxes or drawers that need to be labeled and organized. A great project that involves getting your family together, sitting down with your photographs, and working together to organize them. Find a place where you can spread out your materials—make sure it accommodates the group. Examine photographs, and label them as appropriate. Passing around the photographs and sharing stories about the people, places, and events helps involve everyone in the project. Discuss and agree upon an organizational scheme that allows you to sort the photographs and then place them in some order. This project may take several sittings, depending on the number of photographs you have. However, it can be an enjoyable experience for every member of the family, and it can also promote good preservation skills for everyone. 1. [BOTT] William Bott, Notts/Staffs, born 1850
    2. Lesley Bayston
    3. I am trying to find the birth of William Bott. William married 17.1.1871 as William Bott, aged 20, bachelor, Miner, in Pinxton parish church after Banns to Emily Knowles. On the marriage certificate his father is Thomas Whitehouse a brush maker. They had 11 living children In a newspaper cutting of his death in 1933 it states he was born in Walsall. The 1881 census says he was born Stafford county of Staffs, 1891 and 1871 both just say Staffs. William Bott died 24.12.1933 aged 83 He had a brother Charlie, and when William was about 7 his mother died and the 2 boys went to live in Mansfield (Notts) with relations. He was Primitive Methodist. I cannot find him on either the birth indexes, or on the 1861 census - as either Bott or Whitehouse. I wondered if anyone had come across him in their searches? 2. Debbie Jennings
    3. Listmembers: I almost forgot.. regarding this current ROLL CALL, I know I advised for you to answer as many as possible that you can. But, let's please refrain from answering a post, to only say: "I don't know anything on this line" or "Sorry not my line" It is most disheartening to see an answer to your query in the subject lines, only to find out that person has nothing. Not a possible, just nothing. Answer as many as you possibly can, THAT YOU HAVE INFO ON. 1. [BOTT] Let's Post Some Queries
    2. Debbie Jennings
    3. Let's have a ROLL CALL, beginning now(10-26) and ending SUNDAY night( 10-29) at midnight. PLEASE SEND THESE TO THE LIST, not to me personally!! PLEASE include the names, dates and place for the ancestor you are hunting IN THE SUBJECT LINE, and give more information about your ancestors - including dates and migration and spouses' surnames - in the message part of your post, so that you can get maximum benefit from this roll call. Please assist with any of the ROLL CALL posts that you possibly can - if we all focus together these next few days, we can maximize our efforts for the benefit of all of us. To make your query work harder for you... keep in mind the old rules of news reporting and include as many of the following as possible: SUBJECT FIELD: To get the most from your query and make your query command attention, place the SURNAME, LOCATION, YEAR in the subject field. Remember ! ! ! ! Many subscribers belong to multiple mailing lists; therefore, many go through their mail looking at subject fields... only reading those that have descriptive subject names. Unfortunately, messages entitled "Question", "Help", "IMPORTANT!", "My Family", "My Line", "My Grandfather", etc., are deleted without ever being opened. WHO: State the names of people as completely as you can. WHAT: Try to limit your query to one or two specific questions or bits of information. Post other queries with additional questions rather than load all your questions into one query. In this way, each of your questions will stand out and get attention. WHEN: Dates are important, if you don't know the day, month and year try to put in a period (1790s, late 1800s etc.) WHERE: Mention the location of events (birth, marriage, death, etc.) in the body of the query. Include their migration path if you can. WHY: Why are you searching for this(these) individual(s)? Describe your connection to him/her. HOW: How your query appears will often get subscriber's attention. Check spelling, grammar and format. Apply the KISS system: Keep It Simple Simple. REPETITION: Once you have an acceptable looking query, save it and update it as necessary. Use it again about once about bi-weekly to touch base with new members. Also, you may use it on web sites that accepts queries. REMEMBER: Your goal is to get information. A list server (discussion group), such as this, is an excellent forum for helping you get that information. Make your query work! By following these recommendations, your query stands a better chance of being read and you may make that great contact that you need. ===== Debra Jennings debbiej_2001@yahoo.com "Following the footprints through time" __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? 2. Debbie Jennings
    3. Listmembers: I am repeatedly receiving bounced messages which are due to persons mailboxes being full and mail cannot be delivered. This also results in being unsubscribed from the list after the computer attempts 3 deliveries and they all fail. Then I have persons writing and upset for being unsubscribed and then they are resubscribed. This is happening often enough now, although at the beginning of summer I asked everyone to just unsub during their vacations. >From this point on--if you are unsubbed due to a full mailbox and you are resubbed and there are repeated recurrences, you will be place on the list to no longer be able to subscribe to the list. I can understand it happening occassionally, but I am having the same persons over and over. I am sorry this is harsh, but the situation is getting out of hand now.I am tired of being placed at fault for someone being unsubbed when they would not empty their mailboxes. I am more then happy to resub you after a vacation or whatever. Debbie Jennings debj@comsys.net "Following the footprints through time"
