Hello, Fellow Listers! I seek any & all information about Conrad Bott b bet 1753-1754 probably in Melsungen, Hesse, Germany & d. 1832 in/near Wayne Twp, Pickaway Co, OH. Married to a former English army cook, had at least 6 children. Her name not known. I descend from his son Lawrence Butt. All the children carry the name Butt yet his will shows his signature and it is clearly Conrad Bott. He was a Hessian soldier who switched sides and then stayed in America after the war. Deserted with at least one other soldier who apparantly accompanied him westward. Russ Ehler

Looking for any information on (Andrew) BOTT and Hannah BOTT, I know Hannah's name for sure, found it on a tombstone with my McBride family. (Some one sent me information that a Hannah Sanno married an Andrew BOTT, son of Reinhold or Reinholt.) Their daughter, Ellen Rebecca BOTT, was my great grand mother. Ellen married James N. McBride in Mansfield, Richland County, Ohio in 1865, later moving to Waterloo, DeKalb County, Indiana. Ellen was born in Pennsylvania, would love to have any information about this family (siblings and such)!!! Thanks, Georgia Pirtle :-)
Hello Listmembers: Vacation time was just great and I realize that many of you will also be leaving for your various vacations also. This allows for a slack time in the list activity. As I have noticed that there has been little activity, I am assuming that many of you are already out enjoying yourselves. For the benefit of those who are still with us, lets have a roll call to get some queries on these lists. We will run the roll call from tonight (Friday) the 15th of June at midnight through next Saturday the 23rd of June at midnight. Just a few quick reminders on placing queries for the mailing lists, just to make it run smoothly. FIRST AND FOREMOST--DON'T SEND THE POST TO ME PERSONALLY, SEND IT TO THE LIST. 1. Please remember to use the subject line effectively. 2. Include any name(s) that you might have 3. Include any time periods or if they are estimates please let us know. 4. Make sure to include any locations or migrations that you are aware of. 5. Make certain to make clear just exactly what type of info you are searching for. 6. Please place the SURNAME in capital letters and not the whole post, as this makes the surname stand out. 7. When placing a query on more then one person or couple, please use different postings. There is no limit to the number of postings that you may place. 8. Include as much info as possible in order to have the best chance for a response. 9. Please attempt to answer as many queries as you might have information for. 10. MOST IMPORTANTLY-- REMEMBER TO THANK ANYONE ANSWERING YOUR QUERY-- What they send NOW, might not be much, but if they are not thanked for it, then later if they find something substantial....they might be reluctant to send it to you. PARTICIPATING IN THE ROLL CALL IS OPTIONAL AND NOT MANDATORY, IF YOU FEEL THAT YOU DON'T NEED TO POST AT THIS TIME, THEN DON'T FEEL FORCED TO. Good Luck to Everyone in your searching. This list is not the place to be discussing VIRUS', not is it the place to be spreading panic... Let this be the last mention of the subject of VIRUS. Many of you are being "taken in" by a so-called virus "SULFNBR.EXE". THIS IS A HOAX IF YOU DELETE THIS, YOU ARE CRIPPLING YOUR COMPUTER. IT IS A PART OF YOUR MICROSOFT PROGRAM... Please refrain from forwarding panic alerts, warnings etc on this forum... You are just spreading the alarm over something that is NOT A DANGER TO YOUR SYSTEM... I will be leaving town on vacation on this Friday May 25th and will return on Sunday June 3rd. During that time, the list will be taken care of by my father, Dick Carter. Many of you have corresponded with him in the past. Although our system is automated, there are occassionally some problems in subbing or unsubbing. In this instance, you may contact Dick Carter at rcar37@prodigy.net So please remember to contact him with a problem or it may not be taken care of in the next week. For any of you directly connected with the lines I am researching, he will also be able to assist you with any of those questions. Debbie Debbjennings@aol.com "Following the footprints through time"
This is to let everyone know that due to circumstances with my server I have switch to AOL and my new email address is: Debbjennings@aol.com Debbie Listowner
Listmembers: In regards to the recent outbreak of viruses, all that can be done is being done as far as the lists go. Most of us know that some of these ARE coming through the list and not as replies whether or not they are suppose to or not. Actually I think that is a rather moot point right now. The fact is that they are getting out to everyone. I am the listowner for about 17 lists and fortunately it has only affected 4 of them and those only briefly. So far, the procedure I have been applying is working. Here would be my advice regarding any of these postings: 1. Get a good virus scan 2. Anything with a mailing list address that has an attachment, DELETE IT (this means anything with the preface in the subject line of your mailing list's name) 3. Send me the email of the sender, I will unsub them immediately and put out a list message so others won't open anything from that address. 4. After deleting the messages from your list, also DELETE YOUR DELETED ITEMS FOLDER OR TRASH. 5. As an avid researcher myself, I know that sometimes sending files/attachments is a must. Please follow these guidelines to assure the best caution: a) Let persons know in a previous email that you will be sending them an attachment (specify that it will be in the next email, possibly giving them a subject line for it) b) Insist that they do the same. c) Develop a "trusted core" group of persons that you will accept from and make no exceptions. d) Keep in contact with these persons regularly so you will know if they have had any viruses recently. e) Send what you can in text format, not using an attachment. f) With this group of persons that you DO accept attachments from, create a system that would be known between you. For example: something specific in the subject line or maybe, as one man I exchange with does, he places this BEFORE any saluation in the body of the message-- "One(or whatever) attachments included" then he addresses me. This lets me know that if I don't see that in the beginning of the text and there is an attachment...it isn't his. g)Alot of persons I am in constant exchange with, I also talk with on the Instant Messenger. We will tell each other if we are sending them an attachment. h) FOR ANYONE WHO DOESN'T HAVE OR CAN'T GET A VIRUS SCAN.... Yahoo Mail is set up so that it has a McAfee/Norton virus scan on it. It automatically scans any attachment, coming in or going out, BEFORE OPENING. It may be a good idea to set up an account through Yahoo temporarily and use it only for having your attachments sent to. Lastly.... I know it is difficult to see an attachment that might be "the one answer" you are searching for and have to delete it....BUT please stop and think... IS GAINING THAT ONE PIECE OF INFO THAT ATTACHMENT "MIGHT" CONTAIN WORTH LOSING EVERYTHING IN MY SYSTEM. We on the mailing lists must be doubly careful, as we are dealing with MANY unknown persons and also we are connected through the lists to many persons, and we don't want to infect anyone else by opening something that would then be transmitted.
