    1. [BOSTON] A denning family lost to 1918 flu
    2. Although most Dennings went to Chelsea and stayed there a long time. One line went to Southie. As a large family it amaused me how they never turned up as they should concidering the number of males. Well my dad bn in 1911 remembered into his 80's the view he had from Chelsea Hill of the carts full of flu dead being collected below in Chelsea's streets. 1918 was a deadly year Anyways below you 'll see the family from John Denning and Ellen Haley they had two sons who were doctors not bad for irish in 1918. even though we came in 1810ish settleing in Chelsea. a generation before the famine. I can envision William treating the flu victims . Catching the flu and bring it home to Mom Sister and a younger Brother. There are two younger Dennings in the grave at Mt Benedict. and only Ellens hubby John entered after the 10 day period of flu deaths. There seems to be a desire to not disturb the graves of the pestilence. Edward the other Dr. is burried at Holy Hood cemetry brookline. About 8 yrs from now when 1918 deaths are released alot of these stories will be found. jim ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ --------- John F. 3. That was the odd thing about the flu of 1918, Jim. The worst hit were young and healthy men. Generally, older or middle-aged people were not affected in the numbers that were the young. It was a real worry for the U.S. Army then in the Great War in France, and crowded training facilities here. Rob Jackson NH
