In my case, the Newspaper obit, as well as the death certificate stated that my husband's g greatfather was to be burried in St. Joseph's Cememtary in Lynn. The truth was he was burried in St. James Cemetary in Boston. Why this happened is still a mystery to us. There were no records of him ever being burried in Lynn. We live in NH and my neighbor's mother recently died. She was told by the funeral director that she need to have a place of burial stated. Since her mother was being cremated and having her ashes scattered, there was none. According to my neighbor the death certificate states she is burried in a neighborhood cemetary.. which is not true and can cause someone searching for genealogical information further down the road.. a real puzzle. Back to the original question regarding finding a birth certificate, I have marriage certificates (generally speaking) to be more accurate for birth dates/places than death certificates, since the information is given directly by the person.
