    1. [BOSTON] Madden from Galway

    3. I have come to multiple deadends in searching for my great great grandmother Mariah Madden. I know she married my gggrandfather, James Fee, in Randolph, Massachusetts in 1858. On their marriage certificate, Mariah gave Boston as the place where she was living at the time of her marriage. No parents' names were given. The fact that she had been living in Boston at the time of her marriage, but that she married in Randolph has always confused me. Many of the Fee family had married in Randolph around the same time. They lived in Hingham. Massachusetts, but since there was no Catholic Church in Hingham, they married elsewhere. A cousin recently posed the question that perhaps Mariah was living with her employers in Boston and therefore married in James' family church? This cousin also noted that many Irish had had their passage to America paid for by their future employers here in America. We have found a Mariah/Marie Madden immigrating from Galway to Boston in 1850, listing her occupation as servant. Are there any resources about such payment of passage for Irish immigrants? Would these resources list the employers paying the passage and the Irish people having their passage paid? We are taking the long tedious route of searching Boston census returns for 1850 and 1855 in the attempt to find Mariah in her employers household. Marcie Garritt
