I have a John and Mary Hoffman of Boston who purchased land in Barnstable in 1810. John was a merchant and the land was purchased of John Hallett. Probably not a coincidence, but John Hoffman was said to have married a Lois Hoffman but this record does not exist in the Barnstable town records. The Halletts at one time were the wealthiest people in Barnstable and owned much of Hyannis and were ship's captains and masters.
