In 2000 My Mom who was born 1938 petioned court by filing a power of attorney so her brother who lived in the area could get records opened for her without mom having to travel from Calif. to Boston. We have just now 2004 made contact with the remaining members of Moms birthfamily . I'm not sure how long it took or in what format the petion should be worded . ---Ron
In hopes of getting access to an original birth certificate, I may petition the Suffolk Probate & Family Court to open the restricted-access records of a paternity or an adoption proceeding that took place in 1915 or soon thereafter. I'd like advice from people who've succeeded with such a petition on the best way to word the petition. I'd also like to know how receptive that court now is to granting such petitions. I'll appreciate any thoughts you have. Thanks. Pat
several years ago i went to neghsand some people from byu were there and they had <A HREF="http://smgf.org:8081/pubgen/site15.jsp">this project</A> . i participated what it wass destined to do was to determine where your ancsestors traveled. i had to give then four generations on all sides . this was so they could know who, where they were.they explained it and said eventually if your a geneaologist and doing the name DENNING . You could go to them and submit dna and find out that my genes stayed in chelsea ma for while ,previos stays of length were in ardagh, longford, lothiam scotland, dover england, and serbia. This facinated me . but the topper was that they showed us a map of the world and said sure england grmany france ,america even south america had tons of dots indicating markers. One place had none. Africa was a place no one had been able to donate dna and four generations of family tree info. So they would need to travel there and convince people to donate dna. with alot of others from maybe england and other place that would have the geneaological info. One day this would allow blacks in america to use their dna to locate the nation country tribe and village their predecessors lived. Imagine the travel agencies booking passage to these villages . we get excited at finding grandmas aunt, lol. this is whats capable thru dna.and its alread done at http://smgf.org:8081/pubgen/site15.jsp Chelsea,Ma.-Woburn,Ma.-denning-dennen-danin-dinan-dinihey-denningston-dinning- carlon-carroll-dever-cogan-malone-heslin-piscopo-mazzola-martini-farrell-mchug h-farley-grimes-lynch-doherty-SanDanto,Ita-Adargh,longford-Revere,Ma-Wintrop,M a.-sprague- and ever growing list Jim Denning

I just discovered my grand uncle James Roomes died in Boston on March 25 1972. The certificate number on the Mass death index is 017369. What do I do to obtain a copy of his death certificate and is there an on line search engine for Boston papers that I could use to find an obituary. All marriages recorded in Boston to 1751 are online at: http://www.rays-place.com/town/ma/boston/ along with some other records from Boston and towns around Boston. If you use one of the surnames with a lot of entries and belong to a surname list for that name please let the surname list know where to find them. This will help other people on that list. You never know who you will help be letting them know where to find them. If you visited that page lately your computer may have the old page in memory so if you see a lot of pages covering 2 to 4 years just refresh the browser and you will get the new page. I have completed the Boston, MA Marriages to 1751 at my web site. All the pages that I had that covered 2 or 3 years have all been merged together into one master file includeing the 1741 to 1751 marriages that were just completed. This file had to be broken into 24 web pages due to the large size of it. All names are as in the City records for Boston, so some surnames have several spellings in this file. One example would be Babage, Babage and Babbidge. Some names used one spelling for a while than another later such as Browne in the 1600's, tha Brown in the 1700's. Changes in spelling seamed to occure at certain times so I believe this is from the City Clerks having diferant ways of spelling. Which minister ot J.P. performed the marriage seams to have no effect on the spelling. Please remember that this was in the 1600's and 1700's when most people did not read or write, and some of us still can't spell. With diferant spellings don't blame your ancestors, it was in the recording of the marriages. There are App. 8,400 marriages listed in this file, each listed 2 times under the mans name and again under the womans name for over 16 thousand lines, which is why there are so many pages. Location: http://www.rays-place.com/town/ma/boston/ or go to my main page at: http://www.rays-place.com/ and click on the link for records by town. If anyone has access to a copy of the book of marriages in Boston, MA for 1752 to 1815 and would like to photo copy the forst 10 years to send me I will be happy to add them to the database and update these pages to include a longer time span. If I can get a copy of that whole book I will probably make pages covering 2 to 5 years then make one big master file when completed. Cheers Ray Brown
I started out doing all ma DENNING DEVER COGAN and most CARROLL MCHUGH MALONE HESLIN's. Then the Journey took a wider turn to Chelsea, Ma . So i started the machelsea-l list which covers chelsea revere and winthrop. Its a different type of list and much more productive generally. The reason why is as i look over the records which i copy at the state archives. Ialso scan for names other people are looking for and i also already have. the end result is i wind up conecting large clans. I find people cuzz that they had no idea existed. so if you need help in the names sure i will help. But if you have people in chelsea revere and mass. you should join MACHELSEA-L. I have just added the marriages for Boston, MA for the years 1737 to 1740 to my web site. This makes all records recorded in Boston, MA from 1650 to 1740 online. There were some years in the 1600's where no marriages were recorded, so this is not complete but as complete as possable. The nest section 1741 to 1751 will take longer as it is not broken out by year like the earlier ones in the book that I am using. When this last section is finished all will be merged into one file (many pages) sorted by name. Locaton: http://www.rays-place.com/town/ Just click on Boston from there. Cheers Ray Brown
I just addd the Marriages for Boston, MA for the years 1650 to 1662 to my web site. On about 3/4 of these records the name of the womans father is also given, wich may be of help to you. The fathers surname is not given unless diferant than the womans surname (occured 2 times). According to the Ninth report of the records commisioners there were no marriages recorded for 1663 to 1680 where I have them online in the big report for Boston, MA. Location ? http://www.rays-place.com/town/ma/boston/ Please also visit the rest of the web site that I have at: http://www.rays-place.com Cheers Ray Brown
Hello. I am new to this list. I am researching my CAVERLEY ancestors from West Co. Cork. Family lore indicates that for a brief time CAVERLEY ancestors of mine (most likely a Richard and John) lived in Boston and were unfortunately involved in some form of scandal. This would have been sometime in the 1840s. Does anyone on the list know if there are searchable online Boston newspapers of the 1840s? Thank you. Russ Wood
If Emma married Arthur before he became an american citizen - she would have lost her citizenship Could you lose your citizenship? In 1907, Congress passed a law (34 Stat. 1228 sec. 3) which stated that a female citizen who married an alien lost her U.S. citizenship and took on the nationality of her husband. 34 Stat 1228 sec. 3 was repealed in 1922, but citizenship was not restored until 1936. Under a congressional act of 1936, a woman whose marital status had been terminated, either by her husband' s death or by divorce, could reapply for repatriation and regain U.S citizenship. In fact, the National Archives in Waltham has the original records of "Repatriations of Women Who Were Married to Aliens before 22 September 1922." There are 3,204 petitions, and there is an index, which was prepared by Cynthia C. Winterhalter several years ago. The first petition is dated 9 Sept. 1936, and the last is dated 24 November 1969. Obviously the relevant period of time in which the marriages in question took place would be from 1907 through 1922, and the region covered would be New England. The wife did not have the option of repatriation if her husband was an alien. From 1907 through 1922 the female's citizenship status was derived through the husband. In fact, if the alien husband died and the widow remarried an American citizen, she still had to apply for repatriation (only granted starting in 1936). Women were not granted citizenship status of their own until 1922, when a 21 year old female was considered a citizen and the principle of derivative citizenship was discontinued. Keep in mind that women were not allowed to repatriate until 1936, however. The women who married aliens and lost their U.S. citizenship status were not given the opportunity to vote until they could apply for repatriation in 1936. I guess that for one year (1921-1922) women LOST the right to vote if they married an alien. Otherwise, since they had never had the right to vote anyway, they were just never granted the right to vote. I imagine that the issue of the women's vote and some sort of push toward equal rights were part of what prompted the change in the law starting in 1922. -- --- Ginny Chung <gchung@mindspring.com> Help find a cure for Cancer - Support the American Cancer Society Sponsor Katie Chung at http://www.acsevents.org/relay/MAMarlboro Team ATAC - All Teens Against Cancer Searching for COYLE, DONAHOE, DIRKSMEIER, FALLON, MANNING, MULLER, PLUMER, SCANLON, TULLIS out of Boston Searching for DONOGHUE, SKEFFINGTON, WARD, WHOLEY out of Lowell, Mass http://www.mindspring.com/~gchung/tree.htm - Main page http://www.mindspring.com/~gchung/CemeteryMain.html - Mass Cemetery Transcriptions ==============================================

Is there anyone in the Boston area that is planning a trip to the Catholic Archdiocese Archives? I am looking for some information on a death in 1911. Please contact me off list to discuss details and reimbursement of expenses, etc. Thank you Ellen
Hi Is anyone out there researching the MacFarlane name? I am looking for a Robert MacFarlane born in Boston, MA about 1914. His parents were Duncan and Margaret (McKay) MacFarlane and both were born in Nova Scotia, Canada. I have reason to believe that he married and had at least 2 daughters. Possibly died about 1970. Any bit of info would be much appreciated. Thanks, Mary Toronto, Canada.
