Denning could be in the wedding party. Seating the guests were Fred C. Stevens of Havana, Cuba, brother-in-law of the bridegroom, William Parkhurst of New York City, Lieut. Robert Gallagher of Brookline and Dr. Daniel Lawlor of Uxbridge. The bridge gowned in a street-length dress of navy blue, with pink hat and accessories. She carried orchids and stephanotis. Her honor maid, Miss Gertrude A. Grady of Revere, wore a fuchsia-pink dress with navy accessories. She held a bouquet of sweetheart roses and stephanotis. Hello listers, My name is Norman Archibald, i am an Australian, and new to your list. Can anyone on the list tell me whether "Cedar Grove cemetery", Boston, has an email address. The half brother of my great grandfather was buried in "Cedar Grove Cemetery" in 1885, after a service in "Paine memorial Hall", Boston. His name was John Showler VERITY. I am trying to discover whether John`s grave has a headstone, and if so, what is written on same. I would also like to know what John`s connection was with "Paine Memorial Hall". According to newspaper articles of the day, John was buried over 2 consecutive Sundays from "Paine Hall". Also, according to newspaper articles he was a member of the "Free Thinkers Party". A newspaper article on his death states the following : "He was much interested among other business in the work of the society at Boston Paine Memorial Hall". Would anyone on the list know what society they are referring to in the article.? Is there anyone on the list who could look for John`s burial place in "Cedar Grove", and check for a head stone, i would be very grateful. Could some nice person with access to the Vital Statistics [1883] please do a quick lookup for me? I've discovered a "mystery woman" buried in the Howe family plot in Calvary. She's Elizabeth Read/Reed/Reid. She died in July of 1883, aged 84. I'm pretty sure she has to be a relative, but need to find out how she's connected. I think these books are at the Mass. Archives. If someone happens to be going out there and could do this lookup for me, I'd really appreciate it!! Thanks, Ann Wheeler awheel@dcdi.net

Hello everyone! I have just joined this list, and I have a family mystery that I want to put out there and see if anyone can help. (This is Boston-related, so please bear with me.) After working on her own lines for 23 years, my grandmother has not been able to find any additional information on her grandmother. So, here is what we know... Mary MORPHET DRYDEN b. 21 Oct 1863, Greenwood VA or WV m. 15 Nov 1883, Scituate, Plymouth, MA (married Cassius Elmer Cushman) d. 15 Aug 1950, Brookline, MA Where the mystery comes in is on the marriage record. When it gives her name, It says Mary Morphet Dryden and there is an arrow pointing to Dryden and a comment that says (Adopted). Under her Father's name, it says George W. Morphet Adopted. For Mother's name it says May (Dryden). My interpretation of this is that her mother's Married name may have been Dryden, therefore her father's name, so that is why she uses it as a surname. What my grandmother remembers is that this George W. Morphet may have been a lawyer, and may have lived in Baltimore. We don't know what happened to Mary's parents, but I have spent some time working the Census records, and have had no results. I am also looking up Civil War service records, in case her father was killed in the war. So far, no luck. We know at some point, George W. Morphet sent Mary to Boston to attend Mt. Vernon Ladies' School, on 6 Aliston Street, Boston. There was a Rev. Robert CUSHMAN who taught there and we think he had a son named Austin Sprague CUSHMAN. (Austin's mother was most likely Lucy SPRAGUE. We think the school was run by two ladies, possibly Mary's Aunts, but we don't know what their names were. If there is anyone who has any information on this school or these people, could you please e-mail me? My grandmother would be thrilled with anything I could turn up! Thanks in advance for any hints, and sorry this was so long! -Tamara __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Recently I spent 5 weeks in Boston on business. In my free time I took advantage of the Boston Public Library, just a block away, and the New England Historical and Genealogical Society, just across the street. Most genealogy researchers can only dream of having the resources that Boston offers. I figured if I were able to spend 6 months in the Boston Public Library just 5 days a week, all the open hours, I still wouldn't be able to cover all the genealogy information that is held in all those beautiful rooms. It use to take me 30 minutes a day just to take in all the architectural details and murals. I learned that the old part of the library is a research library. And the staff never ever failed to be extremely helpful. I almost cried when I went to the Rare Books/Musical section. I explained to the librarian I was doing research on the first family to open a musical publishing business in Boston. She asked me if it was another family and I said no it was the Von Hagen's. Oh yes the Von Hagen's she said. I told her the way you are shaking your head yes you act like you know who I am talking about. She said of coarse I know about the Von Hagen's and proceeded to give me information about them. Then she showed me where to look and what to look for. What a thrill. I got to see prints of their music!!!!!!! The staff at the NEHGS was also very helpful and you could spend a life time there with all the info they had. Sadly I didn't ever get the time to go to the archives. I didn't find out until to late they are open on Saturdays. Good luck. Regina

looking for Frank I Cohen in city directory or death index around 1924..last known address was Kingsbury Street in Roxbury in 1920 census. Was told he died in 1924 but can't confirm it yet. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Barry (in Atlanta, Ga.)
Hi there Eileen I have looked again at the 1901 census for Inishmore and the family at No.21 in Onaght. The only problem is, although they are all close to the ages and appear to be the family I am looking for, I have still to be convinced this is the correct family. My grandmother Anne Mullin is not listed with them. She was born in 1882 and would have been around 19 at the time of the census. I cannot see her listed anywhere else (e.g. visiting others). It is said she returned from the USA to get married to John Flaherty (marriage took place in September 1909). Her sister Margaret Mullin sailed to Boston on the SS Numidian and applied for entry in June 1908. I am certain this is the correct Margaret. Problem is, I don't know the exact date of the ship's arrival, and this would determine which film I ordered. If the whole family went to the US together it might assist my search. I have e-mailed Salt Lake and also Nara to try and narrow down my search for a passenger list film order number/information but so far I have not received a reply from the first, and no direct answer to my specific question from Nara, just a lot of forms for one thing and another. Does anyone out there know anything about the arrival date of the SS Numidian in 1908? Seem to have hit a wall again, as you do!! Regards Anne in Yorkshire
