Is there any way I can get a copy of all the people that lived at a certain address in Boston, in 1902. I tried last night by giving a name but that didn't seem to work, but if I could see the people that lived at a certain address then that might help me. So I guess I'm asking where do I need to go to get a copy of who lived where ... the address is 55 Hull Street, Boston, MA. The year would be 1900 - 1902 Thanks so much. CONANT date: ?? ?Where? (MA) b. April 3, 1823 New Ipswich, Hillsboro, NH d. Dec., 29, 1876 Where in MA around Boston Buried: Where I have the information from the FO Conant book. I need to expand on that information. She had a brother by the name of Charles H. Crowell. She lived with him for a while in Boston. The location of "The Banner" around 1860/70 would be very helpful. She was the famous medium Mrs J.H. CONANT, also known as "Fanny" Conant. Any assistance with this endeavor is greatly appreciated. GOD BLESS AMERICA!! Jacque Martindale
I've been lurking around for a while, but now it's time to post my surname. At least one of my relatives, an Edward Hedlund settled in Boston during the 1880s. He worked in a shoe factory, although I don't know what as. He began life as Gustave Edward Lindquist. He married Albina Alberta Turnquist and had three daughters: Edith, Ruth and Svea. Thanks for reading, Mark Hadlund in Council Bluffs, Iowa
NICHOLSON; Westmorland, ENG > Boston, MA; 1600s+ Ambrose Nicholson (Francis, Ambrose, Henry, [Henry], ...) was a great-grandson of Henry NICHOLSON of Hartford, CT; he wrote: "The Nicholson family of which this book will confirm the Records, descended on the male side from the Welsh, but by intermarriage with English, the children of Francis Nicholson were but one-eighth Welsh." (Ambrose Nicholson (1802-1888), "Record of the Descendants of Francis and Rachel Nicholson") If Ambrose was 1/8 Welsh, it is implied that Francis was 1/4 Welsh, Ambrose was 1/2 Welsh and Henry was the immigrant ancestor from Wales. No records have been found to confirm or refute the possibility that Henry NICHOLSON of Hartford, CT was a Welsh immigrant. However, other evidence suggests that Henry NICHOLSON of Hartford, CT may have been the son of Henry & Sarah (STRATTON) NICHOLSON of Boston, MA. For details on this theory, please refer to the NICHOLSON documents at my web site: http://www.perry.streeter.com. Given the possibility that Henry NICHOLSON of Hartford originated in Boston, MA rather than Wales, the following NICHOLSONs are of great interest: "NICHOLSON--Brough Under Stainmore, Westmorland, England seems to be the like ancestral home of the NICHOLSONs who arrived in Boston shortly before 1700. In the Suffolk Co., MA probate record 423f .5sh 6 p. is the division of the estate of George NICHOLSON. The inventory was presented at Boston 11 Aug 1692 by his widow, Hannah. The probate was completed on 20 April 1700. At that time Hannah now Hannah RUCK and the sum to be distributed was L-423 5s 6d. Next of kin were brother, Edward NICHOLSON citizen and gunmaker of London England, brother Robert NICHOLSON of Brough [under] Stainmore, in Westmorland [England], Thomas and Elizabeth NICHOLSON of Brough children of deceased brother John NICHOLSON, and Samuel and Isabell KIDD children of sister Anna KIDD alias NICHOLSON. The parish records of that area include many of the name Henry [NICHOLSON]. Further research might be profitable. (Jean Nicholson Maack, Corrections and Additions to "The Nicholson Ancestry" [manuscript]) More details on this NICHOLSON family would be greatly appreciated! Brough is a parish in the East Ward of Westmorland near Kirkby Stephen. Historically, Westmorland was part of Cumbria. Is it possible that the words Cumbria and Cymru (Welsh) were somehow confused in legends about the family's origins? In the 1674 Hearth Tax for Westmorland, several individuals named Henry Nicholson are identified: Ward Constablewick ------------------------------ East Crakenthorpe East Stainemoore Midlequarter West Bampton West Barton above the Church West Kirkby-thure West Low Winder Is anyone researching NICHOLSON ancestors in this area? There is a Bolston's (sp?) T-Wharf on the north side of Long Wharf (bottom, center) http://www.mappingboston.com/html/map13-dt2.htm Is this the T-Wharf to which you refer. It can be shown to be more fully developed, called the "Tea Wharf" on this map published in 1777 (you have to get all this on one line) http://memory.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/r?ammem/gmd:@FILREQ(@field(TITLE+@od1(A+plan+of+the+town+of+Boston+with+the+intrenchments))+@FIELD(COLLID+armap)) It makes one wonder if special meaning has not been attached to the wharf being called "Tea-Wharf". [Note: if you have trouble making the two above urls work, there are links provided for both here http://jrshelby.com/bostontp2.htm#1769 On the following 1800 map, this same "T-Wharf" is seen, apparently named as "Brummen's T-Wharf http://www.mappingboston.com/html/map14-b.htm By 1838, it appears that T-Wharf had grown to become quite a large wharf http://www.mappingboston.com/html/map15-dt1.htm It can still be seen on the 1855 map http://www.mappingboston.com/html/map16-dt2.htm With the landfilling, in 1891, T-wharf has become a wharf in itself (no longer an appendage of Long Wharf) http://www.mappingboston.com/html/map17-dt2.htm It remains visible, identified as "T.W" in the 1927 map http://www.mappingboston.com/html/map18-dt1.htm If one goes to http://mapquest.com and enters long wharf (for street address) boston ma it can be seen that T-Wharf is now shown as no more than lump on the north side of Long Wharf. It would have been directly in line with S. Market Street as can be seen on the above map. You can see more detail by zooming in or clicking on the "aerial view" and zooming in. I believe we have affixed the position of the T-Wharf, as well as having seen its history. On the map of the various sites shown on http://jrshelby.com/bostontp2.htm The T-Wharf would have been just off the n.e. corner of the map, immediately above Long Wharf. By the way, this is the first mention I have received or found of this as a proposed site for the BTP. Now the important question. What primary source document is there that supports this as the site where the Boston Tea Party occurred? Do you know anybody who would know that? Do you know others who believe they have reason to believe that this is the Tea Party site? Thanks for your response. John Robertson
