Does anyone on the list know where the Old Navy Home or Old Navy Hospital existed in the Boston area prior to 1909? I am not requesting info on the Chelsea Home for Soldiers and Sailors. Their records don't exist and it was suggested we find the Old Navy home that was in MA. My ggrandfather lived in Malden, MA at the time and it would make sense he ended up in the Soldier's and Sailors Home in nearby Chelsea but there is no record of his death in Chelsea records, Revere records or Malden records. He was a sailor from Machiasport, ME and he died before his wife who died in 1909. Thanks for your help. Karin A. Joyce

Can anyone tell me where I could write to obtain a naturalization record from USCC Boston 1896?
Hi: Would it be Brewster instead of Brewer? If so, maybe you could contact these people and ask if they have your obit in their archives. http://www.townonline.com/capecod/brewster/obit/index.html Regards, Dick Watts ( rlwats1@msn.com ) Stoneham (MA) Historical Society, Webmaster http://www.geocities.com/stonehamhistoricalsociety/index.html Stoneham, Middlesex, MA, USGenWeb Town Coordinator http://www.geocities.com/rlwattss/USGenWeb/Stoneham/stonehamhome.html St. George, Knox, ME, USGenWeb Town Coordinator http://www.geocities.com/rlwattss/USGenWeb/stgeohomepage.html ----- Original Message ----- From: "Edbld" <ees@prodigy.net> To: <MAMIDDLE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, June 28, 2002 1:58 PM Subject: [MAMIDDLE] Fw: [LL] Massachusetts obit > Hi Dave: > I am forwarding your inquiry to both Boston and Mass. Marianne, That url you sent to the list is a hidden goldmine! I got to thinking that maybe there were other maps (I'm a greedy goldminer when it comes to genealogy!). I discovered that if I backspaced on the link, to http://www.ci.boston.ma.us/bra/ , it took me to the BRA's main page, where I clicked on "Neighborhoods", which gives you all the n'hood choices. My SULLIVAN'S and MEHEGAN'S lived in South Boston ("Southie") at 561 E. 6th St. (and other locations), so I clicked on that link, and, well, WOW!! Like the map you referred to, it's fantastic! So much detail on the maps. The website is informative as well. Heck, I've never been in Boston, but I feel like I could get around pretty well, at least in Southie for now! Thank you! Does anyone have any information on a John FRASIER/FRASER/FRAZIER/FRAZER who was a coopersmith in Boston then Roxbury and married to Elizabeth (last name unknown)? They had a son, Charles, in 1846 in Roxbury and may have had a son, John, earlier than that. Thank you very much in advance! Peace, Lucille Blessed Be! Lucille A. Does anyone have any info or a link to a website with info on Charter House ? My Grandmother, Helen Sheridan, was supposed to have lived there before she married my Grandfather, Michele Barbera, in 1906. Courtney aquarius@c2i2.com
This cemetery is in Roslindale where it borders Mattapan. The city website shows the cemetery on the map. If you use the magnifying option in the map you can see the street names. It is a pdf file. They are adjacent areas within Boston.
I would like to thank everyone who responded to my email. I appreciate your replies and information. My great and great-great grandparents were buried there ca 1866. Elaine
I am going to visit the Mt. Hope Cemetery in Mattapan. Whenever I put this into mapquest it comes up Roslindale. Is this one and the same? Thank you. Elaine
HI, I have the naturalization papers for my ancestor and ordered the form in the mail that I need to fill out to get a passenger list but it does not tell me on the naturalization papers how he got to Boston from Nova Scotia only when. I am feeling dumb now. Did I miss a step like: Do you order 1. Naturalization papers, 2. immigration papers, and 3. passenger list? If so I got the wrong form for immigration papers. I need to know the ship he came over on or way of transportation. Thanks, Christine

Found him!!!! After many years of research, I finally decided to ask for some help! In a matter of about an hour, I found a long lost ancestor. In a very old family bible, I have the record of John B. Warren and his first wife Susannah Grigg and their children. This is a family record that has been with us since the mid 1800's. The record stated that John was born in 1802 but does not specify where. The births of his children are recorded in the bible as Cambridgeport and Malden MA. Several years ago, I discovered that John and his first wife were both born in Hampshire England. John was re-married in 1851 to an Irish woman, which took me a long time to find in the Massachusetts records because of his common name, after his first wife died in Malden and is also listed in the family bible and I found her death record at the archives. I decided to search for his re-marriage purely on a hunch. Without this information, I would have been searching for a widow named John B. Warren, not a married man with a wife from Ireland. There is also a pencilled date of May, 26 1883 written in a later hand, above the ink record for John B. Warren which I assumed to be his death although not recorded as any particular vital record. I could never find a death record in Massachusetts for him and the reasons are now clear. He must have moved to Maine between 1870 and 1880 (census recorded in Maine) and died there. Hopefully I can find the death record in the Maine archives. Anyway, after years of genealogical research, this may have been one of my most exciting finds because of the time I have been searching but the very simple way in which the results were found. Thanks to online census records and help from other researchers indexes. Never give up!!!!! Thanks for everyone's help. Some more information concerning my search. John B. Warren was born in England in late 1802 and his wife Elizabeth was born in Ireland and was quite a bit younger. I've been looking for a needle in a haystack so I've been making a couple of trips to both the Federal and State Archives... If anyone has a John Donahoe/Donahue/Donohoe/Donohue e-mail me. I will send you an HTML containing *List of the John Donahoe/Donahue/Donohue/Donohoes found in Suffolk County Massachusetts in 1900 census *List of John Donahoe/Donahue/Donohue/Donohoee's marriage records found between 1881 and 1900 in Suffolk Mass. Dear Listers, Does the above named gentleman 'ring bells' with anyone? I guess that he must have gained rank during the Civil War, but I know very little more about him, other than that he was married twice: to Catherine MILLIKEN in 1836; and Sarah Ann PARKER in 1845, with issue by the latter. Apparently, he was born in West Boylston, Massachusetts, 19th April 1809, and died in Roxbury, Massachusetts, 10th January 1889. Yours, etc. Geoffrey Woollard in Cambridgeshire, England.
