You have to go by county ... for instance, if she died in Boston Proper (within the city environs) that would be Suffolk County. But in my experience, most all of my relatives have "Boston" on birth, death and marriage certificates, even if they lived in Roxbury, Cambridge or Dorchester or Brookline, etc., etc. Do you know where in Boston she lived? As in what street? That would help narrow the search if you aren't sure she lived in Boston Proper (and not many people did or do). Lemme know and I'll try to help you out. I would like to know which court would have a copy of a will for my grandmother who died in 1940 in Boston, MA. I went to the court web page for Boston and Massachusetts but could not navigate it. Thanks,
Hi Everybody , I just became aware of the free Ancestry.com & MyFamily.com free software. Since it sounds to good to be true, I'm asking if anyone has used it ? How good did you find it ? Did you complete your full family tree with it ? Does it offer enough so one does not need purchased software ? I'm trying not to put hours into it and find it not good enough etc. Thanks much --- kind regards - sincerely, Walt-NJ

Hello, I am looking for anyone interested in researching the Myer Machkowsky family that was in the 1930 census on Fairmount Street in Boston. He was 37 born in Russia, his wife Sofie 36 born in NY, children Elliot, Anita, Arnold and Elaine born in MA. If anyone has any other resources that can help me trace this family, I would love to hear more about them as well. I am trying to find out if this family is related to my great grandmother. Thanks for any interest. Sandy
I do not search this surname. I did not find any Machkowsky in the census indexes I have access to and none in Boston. Maybe the 3 listed below, 1910, might help. They may have preceded your Myer Machkowsky family. Also, you might try to find a naturalization in the county court records. Sometimes the record offers many clues. HI Bill, I have a great Uncle named Andrew POLLOCK who was Naturalized in 1889 at Cambridge, MA. His witnesses were William Pollock and SCOTT as living at 529 or 549 Prospect St. Cambridge, MA. The occupation was carpentar. I wondered if you have a SCOTT which might be in that area at that time. The book is "The Stones Speak: Irish Place Names from Inscriptions in Boston's Mount Calvary Cemetery" by R. Andrew Pierce. I believe it is published by the NEHGS. I found it on several websites selling for $22.50. By no means does it include every stone in Calvary...and I might add that I believe this is limited to the Old Calvary. But it could be a great resource if you are researching Irish in Boston. Good Luck! Jerry
