He won the Monthyon prize around 1860. Maybe it would help if I identify the surnames that are stated at the end of the book. From 1859 to 1973, there were fifty-three descendants of Theodore and Sophie. They have grandchildren named Bishop or Johnstone and great grandchildren named Bishop, Benner, Montgomery, Hand, McKeeman, Rimpau, Thomas, Schaefer, Patton, Westlake, Mitchell and many others. I wish I was familiar with their tree, so I could be of more help. FYI..The book contains over 350 pages of letters. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Honestly, I have not read the book as I picked it up from the books they were selling off at the library because it was about prairie life. When I realized it was all letters, I figured it would mean more to a family member. I just glanced at it and Theodore was the first of his family to come to America. He arrived in NY on 4-20-1851 and was in NY for a while teaching french, stayed in VT, then went back to NY and finally moved on to MN in 1855. I looked in the index for the names you mentioned and the states and none are included. They may be referred to briefly in some of the letters, but that will be hard for me to find without reading all of them. If you know of a specific tie into Theodore (or a sibling, etc.) I could dig a little more. Let me know, jane Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Thank you so much for answering my questions and sending the additional information. It was very interesting and informative. I am most interested in Maria Catharine who was born 1742 - more about that later. Does Joh... name anyone in his will - 1777? I live in California, but plan to ask a friend to check the land records of Bucks Co, Pa for the Bast family. Mary ----- Original Message ----- From: "David W. Long" <[email protected]> To: "Mary H.
