Hi Cousin Payne, it is somewhat correct, as the sons of Johannes, ( Johannes Wilhelm Bast Anglized as John William Bast/Bost), as German Luthern patterns would have all the son's names prefixed with a saint's name, which was not used as part of the proper name. Hence, you will find the sons of Johanne's shown, as, for instance, Johann Jacob, Johann Wilhelm, etc. As you know "Johann Wilhelm, and his sister Maria Magdalena, were the children of the first wife. >From: "Payne Daniel" <[email protected]> >Reply-To: "Payne Daniel" <[email protected]> >To: [email protected] >Subject: Re: [BOST] Re: Bost, Mary Magdalena/SEITZ, Andrew >Date: Tue, 20 Jun 2006 15:00:39 -0400 > >I do not find that Johannes Wilhelm BAST had a son named Johann Wilhelm >"William" BAST/BOST. I do not find that Johannes Wilhelm BAST had a son named Johann Wilhelm "William" BAST/BOST. He had a son Johannes John BOST, perhaps you can clarify this for me. I don't know when the reunion is, but there is usually one in Oklahoma every year in Caddo County somewhere. If I learn anything I'll try to keep you posted. I'm kind of out of the loop with the people that put it on, but I'll try. Where do you live?

At the last reunion, we decided to try the 4th Saturday instead of Sunday to allow more people to travel in from out of town. If you'd like more information or would like to be added to the invitation list, please email me at [email protected] Kathy Croft

John Harvey lived in an Austin Veterans home late in life, and applied for a pension in Caldwell Co Texas (He could have been living in Luling, Tx) I don't know where Cynthia would have been buried. Since she died over 20 years before he was, she wouldn't be with him in the Texas State Cemetery. Thanks for the info on Anna! I didn't have anything on her. Still don't know anything about Susanna. I keep thinking if we could find where mother's are buried, we might find more clues. She could have been buried around San Marcos, since the Bosts were there. But I have figured out most of the stones in the family plots.

On August 25, 1890, he moved to Austin to the Confederate Men's Home, but stayed only about a year. He returned to the Home on June 3 , 1910, but apparently left again, because on Dec 6, 1920 he applied for, and later received, a Confederate Pension from the State of Texas while living in Caldwell County. After his final return to the Home, JH died on July 6, 1926 and was buried in the Texas State Cemetery the next day. His daughter, 1. Cora Salmona BOST b.Nov 29, 1867 d Jul 07, 1957. She married a man named McDuffy Hunsucker. My grandfather had full dates for her, so she might have lived in Texas near family. I don't have anything on Charlie F. other than his name in my grandfather family tree work, and Charlie was the only child the Texas State Cemetery researchers would find to list as John Harvey's child. But, my grandfather didn't list him as a child! So, maybe he was a grandchild they found.? (The thing about genealogy is there are always mysteries to be solved). 2. Cynthia Ada Bost- b. Nov 29, 1867 d. Nov 24, 1947, married a man named Samuel Henry Davis, whose parents were from the Luling area (where my grandfather lived). His father was Clyde Davis, of Caldwell Co. Tx and mother was a Colwells, and they were a family in Luling Texas. I really don't know why the kids aren't on any record, but it seems like my grandfather did know them, and the families they married into. (of course, papa died 10 years ago...) My grandfather's name was also Jonathan David Bost, after the other JD Bost's in the family. He was b 1920, and moved to from Victory Co. Tx about 1930. The famly lived in Buda, which is close to San Marcos, and after he married in 1940? He moved to Luling. So I am pretty sure he knew Cynthia and Cora. My grgrgrgrandfather, Leander Sydney (John Harvey's brother) was also on the NC census, but is said to have moved to San Marcos Texas in 1881. I don't know exactly when Marcus Bost moved. Maybe he was the one who said how wonderful San Marcos Texas was to the others. (must have been better then..it is about 20 miles from where I live, and I want to see NC!) I am hoping that you can research the children through the family names I gave you. I know the Davis name was big in Luling at one time. So surely someone from there will be able to tell you something about them, and you can find Cynthia listed as a spouse. Hey, I have some easy families to research, and hard ones. All on my mother's side - I think they were hiding! Ha. Good Luck. And let me know if you find where anyone was hiding.

He had 5 children at the time he immigrated in 1883 which would have made them: Cora - 15 (girl) Charlie - 14 (boy) Sue - 11 (girl) Ada - 9 (girl) Anna - 7 (girl) I'm guessing he left all the girls in NC with a relative possibly which is why they only mention one know relative (charlie). I'll try and find the other kids and who he possibly left them with.

It looks like Charlie F. Bost was his son (he shows up in the 1880 census-and must have moved to TX with him). Do you have any dates for Charlie that we could comfirm this is the same person? I still have a couple of relatives to talk to, but currently I don't have additional information about him moving to Texas. I did read a post that John Harvey and almost all his brothers moved to Texas, although it looks like it was at different times. Because as you stated, Marcus appears to have been already in Texas in 1880 (per the census). I'll try to find this information again. John Harvey, wife and kids were still in NC in 1880. I know John Harvey's daughter Anna stayed in NC (this is my line). She ended up marrying Harvey Calvin Troutman. His other children, I'm not sure about. But as you say if Marcus moved there first, then some of his brothers were likely following him. I'll keep you posted as I find more out, and any information you notice that I am missing on the website, please let me know. Feel free to go to my website to for further detail on dates etc. Thanks, Jeff
