Boschong Subscribers, I am re-posting this to the List, in light of the recent DNA testing results with the Mitchell DNA. This information needs to be considered in any further research to solve the Mitchell and Bushong puzzle. There were a lot of Mitchells in the Ross County area of Ohio around 1800 and on. Anyone of these Mitchell's could have had a death and their children placed in the Bushong household. There was a Robert Mitchell who came from Bourbon County, Kentucky around 1799 and bought Lot 144 in Chillicothe. He might be worth taking a look at since he came from Kentucky. Supposedly the John Mitchell that married Rosannah Beard came from Hampshire County, Virginia with a brother James. I have contacted the Ross County Ohio Genealogical Society for help to determine which Mitchell might have died and their child or children placed in a Bushong household. Plus I have requested that they look in Valentine Bushong and Lt. Edward Buchan who I suspect are the same person. I have also sent off a request to the Kentucky State Archives to get copies of the 1812 Chancery Suit for Nancy Summers VS John Summers along with the depositions to see what will be learned from them. ----------------- POST OF FEBRUARY 2013 - Reworked Boschong Subscribers, Tricky research and I now know why no one attempted to research this couple. There were two John Mitchells living in Ross County, Ohio at the same time and ages very nearly the same. At first I thought they might be the same person but after doing a lot of research, came to the conclusion that they are definitely two different John Mitchells. Both men married within months of each other in 1816 and died in the same time frame. One married Sarah "Sally" Bushong and the other married Rosanna Beard. By the 1850 census both wives, Sarah and Rosanna were widows. So here is what I believe to be information on John Mitchell who married Sarah "Sally" Bushong based on what I was able to find so far. -------------- SARAH "SALLY" BUSHONG Born: 1791, Mercer County, Virginia, d/o John Bushong and Janette Young Summers Died: Between 1850 and 1860, Ross County, Ohio Buried: Unknown cemetery, Ross County, Ohio Married: 8 March 1816, Ross County, Ohio to John Mitchell JOHN MITCHELL Born: Circa 1780s - 1790s Died: After 1840 and before August 1850 Buried: Unknown Cemetery, Ross County, Ohio -------------------------------------------- CHILDREN OF JOHN MITCHELL AND SARAH "SALLY" BUSHONG 3 known children and 2 unknown children as per 1830 and 1850 census records 1.
