    1. [BOSCHONG] Erroneous 1761 marriage date of widow Isabella Young to John Summers - VA
    2. Russell Bushong
    3. Good afternoon Boschong Subscribers, This bond below dated 23 June 1761 has nothing to do with the marriage of John Summers and Isabella Young. Just because the bond was dated in 1761 means nothing unless you know what the bond was all about. People put bonds up for many reasons. Without looking at the original bond I am not going to even speculate about it and neither should you. Since the widow signed her name as Isabella Young all through the Probate of her late husband, she did not marry on this date quoted by some as the marriage date. I am not saying that they did not marry and I am thinking possibly 1766 since this is when the Complaint for Judgement was taken into Court by John and Isabella Summers and new Guardians are appointed in August 1767 for Patrick Young's Heirs. What ever happened it is strange that suddenly in 1767 a new Guardian is appointed for the Young children. What ever happened it spurred the Todd's to want to protect the Young children's right in the Estate of Patrick Young. Or this Judgement did not turn out well and the Heirs of Patrick Young were in peril of losing whatever was assigned to them. Who knows but I bet there is more court action on this then is shown here. Chalkley did NOT extract all of the records in case you did not know that. I am going to try my best to find both this bond and the actual date of marriage for John Summers and Isabella Young and to find more chancery as I believe there is more. This is real genealogy. ------------------ Augusta County Virginia Order Book XXIV Page 342 JUDGEMENTS - November 1766 Summers VS Campbell - John Summers and Isabelle his wife late Isabelle Young, complain of James Campbell and Richard Woods. The bond was dated 23 June 1761. This was NOT a marriage bond. Until we find the actually bond it is ridiculous to speculate on what it was about. --------------------- So what we learn from this is that during the settlement of her deceased husband's Estate May 1761 through November 1762, Isabelle Young was NOT married to John Summers. However, she married him probably around the time this Judgement was filed which was November 1766. And by August of the next year 1767, new Guardians are appointed for the Patrick Young heirs. --------------------- Will of Patrick Young Augusta County Virginia Will Book 3, Page 16 Will dated 4 April 1761 Introduced in Court in April Term 1761 Will proven and Executor Joseph Walker and Executrix widow Isabella Young approved.
