    1. [BOSCHONG] How does the family of Delilah Bushong and Lt. Edward Bushaw/Buchan/Bushon of War of 1812 connect?
    2. Russell Bushong
    3. Good Morning Boschong Subscribers, Back in March 2007, I posted some information about Lydia Bushon who married Christopher Cline. The question of lineage for Lydia Bushon has yet to be addressed and answered. While researching Delilah Bushong and her daughter Nancy Jane Bushong, I suddenly realized that in the 1870 census Delilah and her family and Christoper Cline, the husband of Lydia Bushon deceased, and his new wife Lucinda, are living as neighbors! Soooo what is the connection to these two families since Lydia Bushon was reported in the HISTORY OF LOGAN COUNTY to be the daughter of the Edward Bushaw/Buchan/Bushon, a Frenchman on a British ship in the War of 1812. I'm pretty sure that the misspelling of the Bushon name was due possibly to the fact that the information was being given by a Cline descendant who did not know how to spell Lydia's last name. His name on the account of Admiral Perry was spelled Lt. Edward W. Buchan and of course, we all know that an o can look like an a and an s like a c. {Buchon?} ------------------------ FACT: Lydia Bushon married Christopher Cline 15 Mar 1836 in Logan County, Ohio. HISTORY OF LOGAN COUNTY OHIO (1880) Page 509 Bokes Creek Township "The first marriage in the township was about the year 1840, when Isaac Cline and Miss Elizabeth Hill were united in holy wedlock by Rev. Steven Holland, one of the pioneer preachers. The second marriage was that of Christopher Cline and Lida Bushaw {Bushon}. The father of Lida Bushaw {Bushon} was a Frenchman, and was taken prisoner by the Americans at Perry's victory on Lake Erie. He was a sailor on a British ship, and when the Americans jumped on board his vessel, and demanded his sword and pistols, Bushaw {Bushon} stuck the point of his sword downward in the deck, broke it in three pieces, and threw his pistols overboard. He finally espoused the American cause, and died at Chillicothe. Lida came to this county with relatives." ------------- Now the above account in the history of Logan county cannot be totally ignored since it is quite possible that Lida (Lydia) Bushon's father could have served in the War of 1812. We know that there was a Edward W. Buchan mentioned by Perry that served and he was on the side of the British during this battle. Many men from Canada served for the British and many were French from Quebec area. So did this Edward leave the States to go to Quebec to serve during the War and then return to the States and somehow his daughter made it to Logan County Ohio with other relatives? Quite possibly. -------------- FACT: THE BATTLE OF LAKE ERIE OLIVER HAZARD PERRY A Collection of Documents, chiefly by Commodore Perry: including the Court - Martial of Commander Barclay and the Court of Enquiry on Captain Elliot: edited with Introduction, Annotations, Bibliography and E. and Analytical Index By Charles Oscar Paullin Cleveland: The Rowfant Club October, 1918 BRITISH SHIPS The Chippeway The Detroit The Hunter The Queen Charlotte THE LADY PREVOST {Commanded by Lt. Edward W. Bushan} The Little Belt PAGE 30 - 31 - Report of Perry "The Lady Prevost's armanent consisted chiefly of 12 pair carronades. She made a noble fight, but such an armanent at long range in smooth water was utterly useless against the heavy guns of the schooners. Her commander Lieutenant Buchan, and her fist Lieutenant Rolette, were both seriously wounded and she was greatly cut up and began to fall to leeward." {NOTE: Lt. Edward W. Buchan was wounded in the head} PAGE 70: "Lieutenant Buchan in the Lady Prevost behaved most nobly and did everything that a brave experienced officer could do, in a vessel armed with 12 pounder carranades. against vessels carrying long guns - I regret to state that he was very severely wounded." ------------------- Researched and Submitted by Gloria Neiger Bushong
