The Bristol News Bristol, Virginia & Tennessee Friday, 24 March 1871 Page 3, Column 3 & 4 DISCOVERY OF MARBLE. Mr. William Bushong has discovered on his lands, four and a half miles S. E. of this place, a deposit of Marble, which judged by the specimen shown us, is perhaps the most beautiful and valuable we have seen in the country. It is variegated, and may be called black and gold, with an admixture of rich brown. It polishes very finely. Mr. Bushong desires to sell speedily, at least a half interest in the land. The extent of the quarry is not fully developed, but it is believed to be very great and it is most admirable located for working. We consider this discovery as of great importance, and desire direct public attention to it. We hope Mr. Bushong will make quite handsomely by it. --------------- Researched and Submitted by Gloria Neiger Bushong
