The Register-Mail Galesburg, Illinois Monday, 10 April 2013 ALTA M. HOLMES BUSHONG WOODHULL - Alta M. Holmes Bushong, 96, Tucson, Ariz, formerly of Woodhull, passed away peacefully on Monday, 1 April 2013, in Tucson. Funeral will be at noon Saturday, 13 April 2013, at Peterson Wallin Knox Funeral Home in Woodhull. Burial will be in the Woodhull Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until time of service Saturday at the funeral home. Alta was born 31 August 1916, in Galesburg, to Walter and Jennie Terpening Brown. She married Karl "Kully" F. Holmes on 29 November 1938, in Davenport, Iowa. He died in 1985. She later married Jack Bushong in 2008. Alta and Kully owned and operated "The Corner Store" in Woodhull for many years. She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church and the Galesburg Moose Lodge 880. She enjoyed quilting, bowling and dancing. She is survived by her daughter, Janet (Mohamed) Khan of Marana, Ariz.; five grandchildren, Jeff (Debi) Recher of Mission Viego, Calif., Kathy (Rob) King of Tempe, Ariz., Mike Recher of Tucson, Ariz., Gina (Bill) Swecker of Tucson, Ariz., Heather (Alain) Khan of Kinshasha, Democratic Republic of the Congo; five great-grandchildren, Patrick and Andy McPherran, Brandon Recher and Tori and Ryan Swecker; and many nieces and nephews. Her parents, husband, seven brothers and three sisters preceded her in death.
