Check the BOSCHONG Archives for April 2007, August 2007, September 2007, August 2009, October 2009 and April 2012 for just some of the many posts on this family. --------------------- The War of 1812 Pension and Bounty Land Warrant Applications Claim #15458 25 November 1850 Andrew Bushong alias John Andrew Bushong State of Kentucky Monroe County ss On this 25th day of November 1850, Personally appeared before me a Justice of the Peace within and for the County aforesaid Andrew Bushong, Sometimes by Strangers spelt Pushuang, aged 58 years, a resident of the County and State aforesaid, who being duly sworn according to Law Declares That he is the Identical Andrew Bushong who was a private soldier as the hired 2, received Substitute, in the place of one Jacob Harland. In the company commanded by Captain Henry Yokey. In the 3rd Regiment of Kentucky Militia commanded by Benjamin Shacklet in the Indian Wars against the United States waged in the North western frontier, said forces was Turtle's War. Also under the command of Major General Samuel Hopkins that the said Jacob Harland was drafted. In Barren County, Kentucky and about the 1st day of August 1812 and as the time of six months. And he Declares that he the said Bushong undertook in the place of the said Harland for Him to serve his, the said Harlands tour of duty for him, being for 6 months as aforesaid. He further Declares that he was accepted and received as the Substitute of the said Harland and was mustered into actual service as such Substitute in said War on the 1st day of September 1812 for the said term of six months upon whose the said Harland was released from his tour of duty. He Declares that he continued in actual service in said War for the said 1st day of September 1812 until the 25th day of December 1812. And was honorably discharged at Breckinridge County Kentucky on the said 25th day of December 1812 as will appear by the muster rolls of said Company. He Declares that as he was the Substitute of said Jacob Harland that he got no discharge although he faithfully performed every legal duty assigned him as a private soldier in said Company. And continued in actual service unto the whole Company was discharged by Order of Major General Samuel Hopkins. He makes this Declaration for the purpose of obtaining the Bounty Land to which he may be entitled under the Act granting Bounty Land to certain Officers and Soldiers who have been engaged in the military service of the United States, 28 September 1850. ANDREW BUSHONG Sworn to and Subscribed before me the day and year above written. And I hereby Certify that I believe that the said Bushong to be the Identical man who served as aforesaid and that he is of the age above stated. J. P. TAYLOR, JCMC ----------------------- On 21st April 1855 with another declaration Andrew Bushong was 62 years of age and a resident of Monroe County, Kentucky. ------------------------ In a Deposition 27 March 1871, John Andrew Bushong was aged 78 years. ------------------------ Widow's Declaration Claim #43445 Cumberland County, Kentucky 5 September 1883 Jane D. Bushong, widow of Andrew Bushong. He died 26 June 1883, Monroe County, Kentucky. His Pension # 8510 dated 23 November 1871. Maiden name: Hutchens Married: 23 December 1862, Cumberland County, Kentucky Residence: By the road from Burksville to Tompkinsville, Kentucky MARRIAGE BOND The Commonwealth of Kentucky Be it Known that we John A. Bushong as principal and Jermiah Crews as Surety are jointly and Severally bound to the Commonwealth of Kentucky in the Sum of One Hundred Dollars. The conditions of this Bond is as follows: That whereas marriage is intended to be Solemnized between the above bound John A. Bushong and Jane Hutchens. Now if there is no lawful cause to obstruct said marriage this Bond shall be void, otherwise it shall remain in full force and effect. Dated at Burksville, Cumberland County, Kentucky this 22nd day of December 1862. JOHN A. BUSHONG JERMIAH CREWS, His X Mark Attest: J. T. Cheatham, Clerk of the County Court within and for the County and State aforesaid and by virtue of my office under the Laws of the State of Kentucky, the custodian of the Marriage Records of said County, Do Certify that the foregoing is a true and correct copy of the Marriage Bond of John A. Bushong and Jane Hutchens as appear of Record in my office. I further certify that the License did return of the marriage of said parties is not to be found in my said office if the same was ever returned they have been lost or mislaid by my predecessors in office and the foregoing is the only Record to be found. ANDREW D. BUSHONG aged 60 years who being duly sworn deposed and says that they knew Fhereby Bushong who was the first wife of John A. alias Andrew Bushong and that she died on the 6th day of August 1858 as per Bible Record which I have. F. HUTCHENS, Age 43 years and F. M. CARTER, Age 54 years who being duly sworn say That they knew William G. Hutchens during his life and that he died on the 14th day of April 1859. COLLINS, Justice of the Peace, Cumberland County In another deposition the following can be gleaned: Jane D. Bushong was 77 years old as of 20 June 1884 She was married twice: M/1: William G. Hutchens who died 14 April 1859 M/2: 25 December 1862 to John Andrew Bushong John Andrew Bushong's first wife was named Feraby and she died 6 August 1858. John Andrew Bushong was 90 years old when he died. ------------------------ Death of Widow: Jane D. Bushong Pension Case #6923 Greetings: Cumberland County Kentucky 23 May 1893 Honorable Secretary of the Interior - Washington District of Columbia Dear Sir: At the death of Jane D. Bushong, widow of John alias Andrew Bushong, late as soldier of the War of 1812, There were about $46 dollars due her however on the day of her death a check came for $36 which was returned. This check were due her on the 4th November 1893. She died on the 30th of November 1893. I have bore the expense of the last illness and burial. Please send to me proper blanks and instructions for the collection of the accrued pension. I am truly yours. P. F.
