Bushong, age 88, of Rhinelander, died on 24 December 2008 in Rhinelander. He was born on 16 July 1920 in Mellen, Wisconsin to Garrett and Alvina (Sorel) Bushong. He met his wife, the former Shirley Henke, in Mellen and they were married on 16 October 1948 and recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. John served in the US Army during WW II and upon his honorable discharge he returned to Rhinelander. He was employed by the Rhinelander Paper Company until retiring in 1982. John also worked at the Rouman Drive In Theatre and was known at the "Ticket Man". He loved hunting, trout fishing, playing Sheepshead and spending time at his cabin in Mellen. He liked collecting coins and looking for bargains at rummage sales and auctions. John is survived by his wife Shirley of Rhinelander, his five children, Dawn Larson, Gary (Mary) Bushong, Lori Bushong, Terry Bushong and Jackie (Rich) Martin all of Rhinelander, ten grandchildren, six great grandchildren, his brother Keith (Rose) Bushong of Rhinelander, his two sisters Mary Carol Javner and Bridget (Richard) Peters, nieces, nephews and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Gordy and his sisters Gail and Nancy. A private remembrance will be held by his family at a later date.
