Good Beautiful Morning Boschong Subscribers, Here is the promised report on the Bushong DNA project and it is now time to set the record straight. Previous criticism has been unjust. Shame on anyone who participated. Before NOW it was pointless to report results as there were not enough participants or data to compare and give a report, although I have given a few updates on the List in the past as new people participated. This included the R1b1a2 Bosang DNA. I still do not feel that there are enough participants to report effectively but here it is. With that said, back in September of last year there was an honest mistake made when Steve Bosang and I were both NOTIFIED by FTDNA that there was a 12 for 12 DNA match with him and another participant in the FTDNA project and we both thought that meant that he matched the Bushong DNA. I now know that was not entirely the case and I am sorry to report that although there are a lot of similarities in the markers, the Bosang DNA does NOT match the Bushong DNA exactly (6 marker differences out of 37) and also is a different haplo group other then the R1a1a of the Bushongs. But some surnames married into both families. (Rush, Hanger, Stover, Maddox, Bane, Stewart, etc). so those of you that have participated in the testing may get a notice down the road to a family match as Ancestry, Family Tree and the Mormon church all combine and expand their trees and DNA findings, so be prepared if you have some of these names in your tree. The interesting news is that the Bosang haplo group matches the two men tested carrying the Bushong name that match the Mitchell DNA exactly and all have the same haplo group of R1b1a2. Under the confines of confidentiality of the specific Bushong participants and FTDNA, I am not posting the individual Y-DNA markers for the general public to see. If you e-mail me privately and ask me a specific question, I will answer it. If we had hundreds of Bushongs participating, it would be a different story. However, the Mitchell DNA project, because there are so many participants, have chosen to make their results public, and can be seen with the link below. It Lists a Bushong with Y-DNA37 of R1b1a2 with direct Mitchell matches under HAP R1b Group 14. Scroll down and you will find it . http://www.familytreedna.com/public/Mitchell/default.aspx?section=ycolorized As previously reported, the original 6 Bushongs with Hans and Andrew lineage, all resulted in R1a1a2 and match each other's DNA but the Steps of the relationship are different. More on that in another later post. Since this is an on-going project, who knows what will be discovered in the future as we go forward. As previously stated, the exact DNA markers of each Bushong participant will never be made public by me but be rest assured those participants CAN see their own results at the family tree dna website using their password. They are not being kept in the dark. But they can view those that match their own DNA and they can contact me at any time to discuss any of the results. My door is always open. This has nothing to do with my administrative skills and everything to do with the way FTDNA manages their website. So, It is totally controlled by family tree dna. I will say that again. I have NO control. It is the Lab that keeps you from seeing anyone who does NOT match your own DNA and that is why the two participants who tested Mitchell cannot see the Bushong results. I have discussed this with the two individuals and given them all the information that they need. Of the 13 participants, two were sent kits recently and both have returned their kits to the Lab, with no results provided yet. ------------------- OF THE 13 PARTICIPANTS TAKING PART: 7 Bushongs are confirmed as having matching Bushong DNA with each other and are haplo group R1a1a 2 participants carrying the Bushong name do not match the Bushong DNA and are an exact match with the Mitchell DNA and have the different haplo group R1b1a2 1 from a private Lab does not match Bushong DNA and but his DNA matches the Sisk DNA and is haplo group R1b1a2. I am in touch with him. 1 from the haplo 1b1a2, Bosang, that does not match the Bushongs, Mitchells, or Sisk. 2 participants kits have been returned to the lab with no results released yet. --------------------- OF THE 13 PARTICIPANTS TESTED: 5 participants are from the Virginia lineages (John, Henry and Peter) 7 participants are from the Kentucky lineages (Andreas) 1 participant's lineage has not yet been established and I might need help to find his roots. --------------------- Where do we go from here? There is so much more that needs to be accomplished with the DNA testing. Whether you like it or not, it is the future of Genealogy. We need to test our African American people. We need to test the Canadians. We need some of the Pennsylvania Bushongs to be tested. We need to explore other variations of the surname spelling such as Busching, Bushon, etc. I am only one person and instead of rabid criticism, it would be greatly appreciated, if you all would help with this on-going project and research to expand the horizons. Haven't you wondered why you don't look like your ancestors? Maybe they aren't your natural ancestors. DNA is very important for family blood lines as it provides medical information passed from generation to generation and may explain an unexplained medical condition in what you thought was your blood family but turns out to be adopted family. My two children are both adopted, both when just weeks old. A medical condition of my daughter, that is not in my family at all, nor Russell's, is explained by her natural blood line. I consider them both Bushongs. The truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. Gloria Neiger Bushong DNA Project Administrator - BUSHONG
This information needs to be cut, pasted and posted to the other Bushong List, word for word with no commentary. Thanks, Gloria
Good Morning Boschong Subscribers, I received the following question: QUESTION: "What is it you are trying to say here Gloria, that Andreas Bushong who arrived in 1754 is NOT Bushong or is of a different line of Bushongs than the Lancaster Group?" ------------------------ MY ANSWER: There is absolutely nothing in my Report where I indicated that Andreas Bushong who arrived in 1754 in Delaware was not a Bushong so please don't read something into this, that isn't there. However of the 7 men who claim to descend from this Andreas, 3 are by name Bushong but not by blood Bushong. -------------------------- Not one single Bushong that still lives in Pennsylvania, never left Pennsylvania, still carries the Bushong name, has taken part in the DNA testing, so there is simply nothing to compare with to give an educated answer about the Lancaster Bushong group as opposed to the other Immigrant Andreas of 1754. ---------------------------- Gloria
