Landis, of Lancaster County, were totally consumed by fire, together with about $3000 worth of lumber. About two years ago these gentlemen purchased a tract of woodland containing some 1500 acres, on which they built these mills, at a cost of $30,000. Their total loss is estimated at upwards of $50,000, as there was no insurance on either the mills or lumber. The fire was the work of incendiaries, as it is supposed it was done by some of the creditors of the firm who sought this plan of revenging themselves. NOTE: Well, that certainly is cutting off your nose to spite your face. LOL -------------------------- Then after the war was over he and his family are found in Norfolk, Virginia. This is probably the time that he briefly went to Bermuda to establish what ever he was selling as a Merchant. 1870 Federal Census: Virginia Norfolk, Norfolk County Enumerated 14 July 1870 Page 191A Lines 25-31, HH 270/370 Henry Bushong 45/Male/White/Merchant/--------$$300/PA Catharine Bushong 40/Female/White/KeepingHouse/PA Augustus Bushong 16/Male/White/WorksInMills/PA John Bushong 13/Male/White/AttendedSchool/PA Cora Bushong 10/Female/White/PA Henry Bushong 9/Male/White/PA James Comich 40/Male/Black/Laborer/VA ---------------------- Researched and Submitted by Gloria Bushong
