Somebody out there has the answer...sure hope they step forward!!!! In a message dated 2/3/2011 9:56:26 A.M. Playing Devil's Advocate and forgetting everything that has been put together by researchers in the past and keeping an open mind consider the following and tell me your thoughts. I have been pondering the names on the Passenger List of the ship TWO BROTHERS that arrived in the Port of Philadelphia in 1753. Back in January 2005 we wondered if David Bosang came here because of the death of a brother with a daughter named Elizabeth. Remember that? Thinking about the various stories that have come forth about the Bushong family, particularly those descendants who lived in Virginia, one story states that two brothers came to this country prior to the American Revolution and made their way to Virginia. We think instead of there being two brothers, it might be that the story, through the years of oral telling, was mixed up a bit, and that was the name of the ship and the brothers that came to Virginia were the three brothers listed below. Knowing that Bushongs were notorious for using more then one name in their lifetime, consider this: Let's explore the names of the three who came on that ship TWO BROTHERS in 1753 a year before the notation in the Minute Book of Augusta County about Elizabeth Bushon which takes on a lot more significance now.(See BOSCHONG Archives for January 2005) CHRONICLES OF THE SCOTCH IRISH SETTLEMENT IN VIRGINIA.......COURT RECORDS OF AUGUSTA COUNTY, VIRGINIA 1745-1800 By Lynn Chalkley, 1912, in 3 volumes: Volume I, page 51, taken from the Augusta County Court Order Book "21 May 1752: Elizabeth Bushon, an orphan, bound to Ro. McClenachan" ------------------------- TWO BROTHERS SHIP REGISTRY - 1753 Were they three men on the ship the following Bushongs? Theobald Devault Bushong (He became David Bosang of Staunton, VA) Mattheis Bushong (Was his full name Peter Mattheis Bushong?) William Bushong (Was his full name Henry William Bushong?) Was David Bosang the father of Henry and Peter or was he their Uncle? We know that Henry and Peter Bushong bought property side by side about the same time in Shenandoah County, VA (1792-1793) and I know I have said that I thought they were the sons of John Bushong of the 1831 Will in Lancaster County, PA. We need to figure out which relationship is correct. RELATIVES FOR SURE 1. David Bosang/Bushong born, Switzerland, died 1779, Virginia 2. Peter Mattheis Bushong born 1760, Switzerland, died 1826, Virginia 3. Henry William Bushong born 1763, Switzerland, died 1845 Indiana In one Indiana biography we read the following "Rev. John Alexander Bushong, who resides in Indianapolis, represents one of the old and honored pioneer families of Indiana. His father, Jonathan Bushong, was a son of Henry Bushong, who married a woman of French descent. Henry Bushong and his wife emigrated to America from Germany just prior to the War of the Revolution." NOTE: The statement prior to the Revolution is very telling since the American Revolution actually had it's beginnings in the 1760's but didn't come to a head until 1775.The word in Europe was that there was going to be a revolt in the colonies and many from Europe came to this country during this time frame either to join up with the English or the new Americans. That's what brought Von Steuben here. The ship TWO BROTHERS arrived here in 1753 which would have been prior to the Revolution! These Bushongs were of French/ Swiss descent but had come from a town Weylburg, that was part of the Alcase at the time of their departure as stated when Theobald Bossing (David Bosang/Bushong) married his second wife Barbara Suess in Lancaster County, PA This is the couple that went eventually to Staunton, Virginia. (Augusta County area). Lancaster, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania: Theobald Bossing, widower, from Burbach in Weylburg, married Maria Barbara Sussin (umlaut over the "U"), widow. Barbara was the widow of Heinrich Suss {Suess} Peter Bushong born 1760 reportily came from Huberhof, Zweibrucken, Switzerland. Wonder what the distance is between these two places? And to this another piece of information that one of the descendants of Henry Bushong, Elizabeth Howerton (a great great granddaughter of Henry)is in possession of Henry Bushong's Bible. I have seen this very large Bible and it is all in German and was published around 1750. Unfortunately it didn't have any genealogical information. ------------------ The more puzzle pieces we have to work with, the more the puzzle will come together. -------------------- TO BE CONTINUED: Researched and Submitted by Gloria Bushong -------------------- ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message
