    1. [BOSCHONG] Correction information about Jackson Bushong, s/o George & Lydia Bushong - OH
    2. Boschong Subscribers, What a mess this family has turned out to be research wise but now ALL is clear! Thank God, we have this List and can correct errors in a hurry. We had posted to the BOSCHONG List back in July 2008 and August 2009 about Jackson Bushong, s/o George Bushong and Lydia Rush. That old Hillary Clinton saying "It takes a village to raise a child" can also apply to genealogical research, although I personally think it doesn't take a village but two good parents to raise a child. It does takes a team to do genealogy and find the puzzle pieces. Everything has to fit! It took Myself, the research of Carol Willsey Bell, Damon Hostetler, John Fahey, Bill and Hilda Hamby and Phyllis Hopper to find some of the facts and possibly some fiction on the family unit of two and possibly three different Jackson Bushongs. All of us were wrong in some degree. There were definitely two Jackson Bushongs who were cousins living in the same time frame and several other Jacksons along the way. One Jackson was the son of George Bushong and Lydia Rush and the another Jackson was the son of John Bushong and Eleanor Rush another was the son of Jefferson Bushong and Rachel Johnson. That has caused a real problem sorting wives. I posted about Jackson, son of George and Lydia (Rush) Bushong for the first time back in July 2008, then in August 2009 when I found the marriage record for what I thought was George and Lydia's son Jackson Bushong to Lettitia Bickham. I am posting once again, as more information has come forth and errors need to be corrected in everyone's research. I believe I am WRONG about that Jackson Bushong married to Lettitia Bickham being the son of George and Lydia Bushong. I believe that Jackson Bushong to be the son of John Bushong and Eleanor Rush, so that eliminates one of the marriages we had assigned to the Jackson, son of George and Lydia. I have also eliminated Rachel Johnson as one of the wives of Jackson, son of George and Lydia. I believe her husband to be Jefferson Bushong. Damon take note! --------------------------------- I also believe that Carol W. Bell was correct that Jackson married twice and that Jackson, s/o George and Lydia married first to Eliza Cole since that marriage took place in Putnam County, Ohio where Jackson was living with his parents and we know he was a widower in the 1850 census with small children. But she was WRONG about second wife Elizabeth Russell marrying a Harpster. She did not marry a Harpster. She married a Simmons. It was her daughter Mary E. Simmons from that marriage who married a Harpster that being Robert Newton Harpster as shown in the census records below. Elizabeth Russell married first to a Simmons and had daughter Mary E. Simmons and then she married Jackson Bushong. To show you what I am talking about, according to an old Spring 1988 which I just found, Carol W. Bell said that Jackson was married twice. First to Eliza Cole and then to Mrs. Rachel Elizabeth ____Harpster who was born August 1826 and died 1915. According to Carol she is buried at Cairo Westside Cemetery, Monroe Township, Allen County, Ohio and her tombstone reads "Grandma Bushong, 1826 - 1915." According to that Bulletin Jackson Bushong and Eliza Cole had the following children: 1. Warren Bushong 2. George Bushong 3. Eliza Bushong 4. Elizabeth Bushong And Jackson Bushong and Mrs. Rachel Elizabeth ____Harpster had the following children: 5. John W. Bushong 6. Christianna Zelma Bushong ------------------------------------ Since according to one of the census records for Jackson's wife Elizabeth R. Bushong, she stated she had 8 children with only two living I think we can assume that most of those children in the Williams Cemetery were the children of Jackson Bushong and Rachel Elizabeth Russell Bushong. Her Russell parents are buried in that same Williams Cemetery. So Jackson's second wife was born Rachel Elizabeth Russell, d/o Elijah and Elizabeth (Wright) Russell. Jackson's second wife Rachel Elizabeth Russell was married first to a Simmons and had a daughter named Mary E. Simmons who later married Robert Newton Harpster. ------------------------------------- Phyllis Hopper found these marriage record that made everything clear. Good job Phyllis! Mercer County Ohio Marriages Jackson Bushong and Elizabeth R. Simmons 8 March 1852 AND THIS MARRIAGE FOR HER DAUGHTER Allen County Ohio Marriages Robert N. Harpster and Mary E. Simmons 1 October 1868 ---------------------------------- So....... Jackson Bushong, son of George Bushong and Lydia Rush had only TWO wives: M/1: 3 September 1837, Putnam County, Ohio Eliza Cole (She died in May 1850) M/2: 8 March 1852, Mercer County, Ohio to Mrs. Elizabeth R. Simmons (She died 1915) NOTE: Elizabeth's full name at the time of her marriage to Jackson Bushong was Rachel Elizabeth (Russell) Simmons which explains her being called Rachel in the 1860 census and Elizabeth in the 1870 census. Evidently she liked Elizabeth better then the name Rachel. -------------------------------------- Ohio Death Records - 1908 - 1953 Allen County, Ohio File # 90 Name: Elizabeth R.
