We decided to call the library in Jay County to see whether this was the entire biography since it seemed to end so abruptly. The librarian said there was more to the biography so she scanned it to me. Here is what was in the Bulletin. Perhaps in another Bulletin the left out part was shown. Pages 739 & 740 David Bushong, the father of our subject, was born in PENNSYLVANIA; reared in Carroll county, Ohio, and learned the trade of carpenter, which he followed in connection with farming. He was married in Hancock County, Ohio to Elizabeth Wolf, also a native of PENNSYLVANIA. William Bushong, whose name introduces this notice, was reared on the farm, and 14 August 1862, enlisted in the United States service as a private in Company G, ninety-ninth Ohio Volunteer Infantry. His service was with the Army of the Cumberland until wounded, losing two fingers by bushwhackers, when he was discharged. He subsequently, in 1863 re-enlisted in the One Hundred Thirty-third Ohio Volunteer Infantry and did Garrison duty near Petersburg, Virginia, until honorably discharged in 1864. After being mustered out of service Dr.{Mr.} Bushong returned to Ohio, but soon came to Jay county and purchased a tract of timber land in Noble township for which he paid ten dollars per acre. This was his home for some years and he made improvements thereon, and at the same time engaged in merchandising at Hector. In 1893 he sold this farm, and shortly afterwards sold out his store at Hector. Mr. Bushong was married in Hancock county, Ohio to Miss Margaret Stillwell. She died at Hector leaving one son, Alfred H., born 6 May 1861, now mail carrier on free delivery rural route No. 3, whose record appears on another page. Our subject next married Mrs. Christena M. Theurer, a widow of J. P. Theurer. Mr. Bushong is a Republican in politics, a member of Henry McLaughlin Post, Grand Army of the Republic, and is a most favorable known man in Noble township. -------------------------- Researched, Copied and Submitted by Gloria Bushong ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message
