The Ottawa Herald Ottawa, Kansas Thursday, 23 September 1915 Page 1 WILLIAM BUSHONG IS DEAD VETERAN CONTRACTOR BUILT MANY BUILDINGS HERE WAS VETERAN OF CIVIL WAR AND COMRADES WILL ATTEND FUNERAL THIS EVENING AT 8 O'CLOCK. William A. Bushong, a contractor who built the First Methodist Church, the Carnegie Library, the old Sacred Heart Catholic Church which was destroyed by fire and numerous other buildings died at his home, 515 East 5th Street at 11:30 o'clock this morning. He had been in ill health for six years as the result of an injury in a fall and had been dangerously ill for several days. Short funeral services will be held at the home at 8 o'clock this evening. The Grand Army of the Republic will have charge with the Rev. B. F. Pugh chaplain, officiating. The Rev. W. A. Elliott, pastor of the First Baptist Church, will also assist. The widow, Sarah E. Bushong, and a son, I. C. Bushong, of this city, will leave early tomorrow morning with the body and burial will be made in Columbiana, Ohio, Mr. Bushong's birthplace. The other two Bushong children, Miss Kathryn Bushong, of Jackson, Michigan and Arthur Bushong, of Gary, Indiana will meet the funeral party at Chicago and accompany to Columbiana. Mr. Bushong was 73 years old and was born 16 December 1841 in Columbiana. Here he was married. When the Civil War broke out, Mr. Bushong enlisted in Troop C, Third Ohio Cavalry and served in the conflict. He was a member of George H. Thomas Post of GAR. The Bushong family moved to Ottawa 18 years ago. Mr. Bushong had followed the contracting business many years. One son, I. C. Bushong, conducts an electrical contracting business here. ---------------------------- The East Palestine Daily Leader East Palestine, Ohio Monday, 27 September 1915 Page 1 Funeral services were held Saturday at Columbiana over the remains of William Bushong who died Wednesday at his home in Topeka, Kansas. Those attending from East Palestine were Elmer T. Hisey, a nephew of the deceased. Mr. and Mrs. B. F. Todd, Miss Adda Hisey and Mrs. Edward Candle, both nieces. ----------------------------- William A. Bushong married Sarah Elizabeth Todd, the 4 December 1872, Columbiana, Columbiana County, Ohio by Rev. W. Dailey. She was born 20 December 1848.
