The Mahoning Dispatch Canfield, Mahoning County, Ohio 29 January 1915 Page 1, Column 1 The Columbiana County Historical Society may be interested in the following entries taken from an old day book kept by John Moore of Washington Township, Carroll County, 75 years ago then part of Columbiana County. This interesting old relic was home made and consists of two dozen sheets of paper each 8 by 12 inches stitched together with flax thread. Many of the items are of great interest in this day and age. The oldest date in the book is 1822. James Monroe was President, Andrew Jackson was fighting Seminole Indians, Thomas Jefferson and John Adams each had four more years to live, a tall lank youth named Abraham Lincoln was educating himself in numbers by figuring in the soot on the bowl of a spade when this little book was new. {skipped to item of interest in book}. SAMUEL BUSHON, evidently a shoemaker, received 93 cents for making two pairs of shoes in 1827. ----------------------------- Researched and Submitted by Gloria Bushong
