    2. Boschong Subscribers, I received some material from Shirley Hall who is a very faithful member of the Menard County Genealogical Society and active in restoring cemeteries of her county. Here are the obits she sent to me. ----------------------- Obits for Bushongs collected by Menard County Genealogical Society (Illinois) Athens Free Press Friday, 29 January 1960 REBECCA BUSHONG, 93, RESIDENT HERE OVER 60 YEARS DIED LAST THURSDAY NIGHT Rebecca Bushong, 93, a resident of Athens over 60 years, passed away at 11:15 p.m. last Thursday night at a nursing home in Springfield where she had resided for several months. She had maintained her home in West Athens until her advancing age made it necessary to give up her residence and enter the nursing home. Surviving her are two daughters: Mrs. Mary Primm, of Galveston, Texas, and Mrs. Berniece Schuch, of Creve Coeur, and six grandchildren. Her husband preceded her in death passing away in 1934. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday from the Mott and Son Funeral Home with Rev. J. W. Armstrong conducting the service. Burial was made in West Cemetery. --------------------------------- Athens Free Press Friday, 10 November 1911 JOHN SWARINGUIN John Thomas Swaringuin was born at Petersburg on 28 March 1859, and died at his home in this city on Wednesday afternoon, 1 November 1911, at the age of 52 years, 9 months and 13 days. In early life Mr. Swaringuin was united in marriage with Miss Alvira Dyer. To this union was born one son who died at the age of twelve months. Deceased was the eldest son of Captain T. A. Swaringuin, who died at his home in Springfield about three years ago. Surviving are Mrs. Martha Overstreet, an Aunt, Mrs. Mary S. Bushong and Mrs. Rye S. Davis. Deceased has spent most of his life in this city and was well known to everyone. He was of a quiet disposition and lived entirely by himself. Death came to him very suddenly on Wednesday afternoon about 1:30 and was caused by heart failure. An inquest was held by Coroner Wilkins, of Petersburg, and a verdict of "death by natural causes" was returned. Funeral services were held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Bushong Friday afternoon at two o'clock with Rev. P. Fischer of Cantrall officiating. Interment was made in the Hall Cemetery. ----------------------------------- Note: Evidently part of this obit was missing Athens Free Press Friday, 1 November 1918 DALE D. BUSHONG 1898 - 1918 Dale D. Bushong, son of Garrett and Rebecca Bushong, was born in Athens, Illinois, 28 August 1898 and died at the home of his parents in this city 26 October 1918 of an attack of pneumonia following an attack of influenza. He was 20 years, 1 months and 28 days. He leaves to mourn his loss his parents, three sisters, Mrs. Mary Primm, Mrs. Florence Mae Webb of this city and Miss Bernice Schuch, two brothers Harry of Springfield and Donald at home, numerous other relatives and a host of friends young and old. On June 1917 Dale enlisted in the military service and was a Camp ......until honorable discharged......ount mastoid trouble January ....1918, thus exhibiting his .......of patriotism. He was of a quiet disposition, ....despensible useful and ....promise of a good career. Interment was made at the West Cemetery where quite a constituency of friends had gathered in ......tribute. ----------------------- Athens Free Press Friday, 21 September 1945 DONALD BUSHONG, 36 DIES Donald Bushong, 36, died at Jacksonville Friday, 14 September 14, at 8:15 p.m. He was born in Athens and lived here until a young man when he went to that city. He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Garrett Bushong, of this city; a brother, Harry, Carterville; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Primm, Galveston, Texas; and Mrs. Bernice Schuch, Creve Coeur. Funeral services were held Sunday at 2 o'clock from the Mott and Son Funeral home with Rev. A. H. Sonius officiating. Burial in West Cemetery, Athens. ---------------------- Athens Free Press Friday, 5 March 1926 William Louis Ferguson was born in Henry County, Missouri and died at his residence in North Athens, February 25, 1926 at the age of 83 years and 11 months. At the age of one year he came with his parents to this county where he has since resided. In 1872 he was united in marriage to Louisa Nation. To this union twelve children were born, two sons; William Rufus and Arthur preceded their father in death. Those surviving are his wife, four sons, John W., Richard and Irvin of Petersburg, and Lester of Athens, six daughters; Flora Brakebill and Grace Bushong of Athens, Alice Ferguson and Louisa McGary of Petersburg, Mary E. Turner of Tice and Viola Thompson of Pekin. Funeral services were held at the M.E. church at 2:00 o'clock last Saturday afternoon. Rev. Ewing, pastor, officiating. Interment in West cemetery. ---------------------- Athens Free Press Friday, 4 January 1929 Mrs. W. L. Ferguson died at the home of her daughter Mrs. H. R. Turner, near Tice, December 26, 1928, aged 73 years, 1 month and 11 days. Louise Melvina Nation, daughter of Hamilton and Elizabeth Nation, was born near Petersburg, November 15, 1855. In January, 1872, she was united in marriage to W. L. Ferguson at Petersburg. To this union twelve children were born, ten of whom survive. She is survived by six daughters: Mrs. Alice Mathews, Mrs. J. W. Gary of Petersburg; Mrs. H. R. Turner, Tice; Mrs. Robert Brakebill, Mrs. Louis Bushong, Athens; Mrs. I. A. Thompson, New Holland; four sons: Irvin Ferguson, Athens; J. W. Ferguson, near Tice; Lester, Petersburg, also fifty-four grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and numerous relatives. Her husband preceded her in death three years ago. She joined the Baptist church when a girl and ever remained a faithful member. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church, Friday afternoon, December 28, Rev. J. C. Ewing officiating.
