Boschong Subscribers, We found this adoption record for Louis Hill, adopted by John L. Bushong in 1894 when he was four years old. His Hill parents were dead and other family members could not take care of him. One older sister is named but we could find nothing on her. After Louis turned 18 years of age, he resumed his real last name. John L. Bushong was married to Carrie Sexton in Menard County, Illinois. He was the son of Jefferson Bushong and Rachel Johnson. I have been waiting for an obit to come from Illinois but so far it hasn't appeared in my mail box, so I am going to go ahead and post this. Bushong for an Order declaring Louis Hill to be his adopted child. And now on this the above cause coming on to be heard upon the petition and proofs adduced in support of the facts therein stated and it appearing to the Court from the petition and evidence herein said petitioner is a resident of said county and desires to adopt said child; that said child is a male and of the age of Four years on the 28th day of May 1894. And further that said petitioner desires the name of said child changed to that of Louie Bushong. That the father and mother of said child are dead but the sister is living and consents to the adoption of said child by said petitioner and further that Maggie M. Bost the Eldest sister of said Louie Hill is the head of the family and that she is unable to provide for her said brother and that he has no other relatives who are willing or able to take and provide for him. And that the petitioner is of sufficient ability to bring up the child and furnish suitable nuture and education and that it is fit and proper that such adoption should be made. And that it would therefore be to the interest of said child to be the adopted child of said petitioner. And it further appearing that the sister of said child has had due notice of the time when and the place where, said petitioner would make the application for an order in this cause, it is therefore ordered and adjudged by the Court that the said Louis Hill be the adopted child of said petitioner and capable of inheriting his estate: That the name of said child be changed to that of Louie Bushong and that said petitioner pay the costs of the proceeding.
