He grew to young manhood here, a cheery, bright boy and after finishing his course in the local schools, he was sent to Oberlin college where he took a five year's classical course, finishing the work with honor and credit. He developed into an athlete of more than local fame during his stay in Oberlin, and won high distinction as a sprinter. His observance of the rules governing amateur sportsmanship was always the strictest and he had the entire confidence of his college associates and his friends here. After returning from college he read law for a year in the office of his father, Hon. M. M. Boothman, but deciding that he would not like that profession, he entered mercantile life and was employed for some time by the firm of D. A. Wolff & Sons, where he gave the best of satisfaction. He left here in February 1900, for Carthage, Mo., where he engaged in the business of travelling salesman, and from the day he left was never seen here again, until his remains arrived from Kansas last Friday. The funeral was held Saturday forenoon at ten o'clock, the local lodge Knights of Pythias having charge of the ceremonies, and the Rev. S. Cobiet being the officiating minister.Ernest Boothman was among the brightest young men this town has produced. Of uniform and unvarying good nature, quick of apprehension and ready to take or give a joke, generally popular, his untimely death is particularly sad, and in their time of sorrow the family have the profoundest sympathy of this community." ------------------------ 1910 Federal Census: Could not find -------------------------- 1920 Federal Census: Ohio Toledo, Lucas County John J.
