    1. [BOSCHONG] More Information on Philip Haines and wife Eve Bushong, Augusta County, VA
    2. Boschong Subscribers, We did a bit more research on Philip Haines. He first lived near McGaheyville in what is present day Rockingham County and is found in the tithables for Rockingham County for 1788 thru 1794. On the 1 July 1795, Philip Hains/Haines bought 540 acres in the Churchville area of Augusta County and moved there. He may have been married before he married Eve and had other children we are just not sure at this point since we can't find marriage records. We know these records are somewhere, either in Rockingham County or Augusta County. Philip Haines and wife Eve Bushong and three of the Haines girls Elizabeth, Lydia and Juliana are found as members of the Jennings Branch Church which the parents joined in 1801 and I am guessing that Philip and wife Eve (Bushong) Haines are probably buried in the church cemetery. We already know that daughter Elizabeth is buried there with her husband Paul Sieg Jr. I wish we could find a marriage date on them to clear up exactly which children are Eve's and which could be for a first wife if there was one. So far, we have not found this record. Way back, I posted about a possible Eve Propst married to Jacob Bushong after I had found some Propst lineage information in Pendleton County, VA that pointed to this. It was nothing documented and we never found anything on a marriage of a Jacob Bushong to an Eve Propst. This may remain a mystery for a while longer but since this might have been oral history handed down through various family members, it's possible that they just mixed up who married who and the mystery may be solved. There seemed to be more then one family of Propst, one in Rockingham County and one in Pendleton County, probably in some way related. Now with all that said, we do know that Philip Haines and Eve Bushong, daughter of Jacob Bushong, had a daughter named Mary Ann Haines who married Reuben Propst. This Reuben Propst was in Rockingham County and his wife Mary Ann Haines died before 1841 as he remarries in 1841 at the age of 43, to Sidney Hoover so possibly this is where the confusion came in on the Propst genealogy. -------------------------- CHRONICLES OF THE Scotch-Irish Settlement IN VIRGINIA EXTRACTED FROM THE ORIGINAL COURT RECORDS OF AUGUSTA COUNTY 1745-1800 CIRCUIT COURT RECORDS, SECTION "I."
