    1. [BOSCHONG] Isaac H. Bushong, s/o Oscar Taylor Bushong, Culpeper County, Virginia
    2. Boschong Subscribers, Before I start with this post, I would like to say that if anyone has anything further to add to this post or any comments, please feel free to do so. And if anyone runs across Oscar Taylor Bushong in the 1910 census please let us know!!! While researching for this post, we went back to the BOSCHONG Archives and on the 16 May 2010 we posted some information about Annie D. Bushong who married William J. Jones, she being the daughter of Henry Taylor Bushong. We suddenly realize that the family of Henry Taylor Bushong was very complicated. Two Sims sisters married Bushongs. Julia Sims married Oscar Taylor Bushong and Florence Sims married Charles Lee Bushong. And then Oscar Taylor Bushong might have had an affair with their sister Cora or a woman named Cora and fathered a son named Isaac H. Bushong. The part about the affair with Cora Sims at this point is speculation. We always love a good family story and this is a good one. We had a family of Bushongs come to the last Bushong Reunion (2010) and we enjoyed talking with them very much. When they contacted me the first time to tell me they were coming, they told me they descended from Isaac Bushong of Culpeper, Virginia. At first I could not place their Isaac in the Culpeper Bushongs since they had no idea who Isaac's parents were as he was illegitimate and there was always a cover-up in that time frame. It was a challenge since an obit we had found for Isaac noted his parents as Cyrus and Cora Bushong and that threw me off a bit. After some researching through I found that the obit was a little off and the Cyrus referred to was really Oscar Taylor Bushong son of Henry Taylor Bushong and Elizabeth Jane Fincham. Since all of the children of Isaac and Sarah had three names, I'll bet that his full name was Cyrus Oscar Taylor Bushong! From there it went back to Isaac Bushong married to Sarah "Sallie" Swank. As you can see from the obit below, Oscar Taylor Bushong married Julia Sims and their union produced six children. What this obit doesn't reflect is the son that Oscar Taylor Bushong fathered, Isaac H. Bushong born 11 January 1909, born out of wedlock. After that he was in the dog house for sure! Could Julia's sister Cora Sims be the Cora named in the obit or was the name just thrown out there since she was an Aunt to Isaac? And now you will know the rest of the story. And this explains why Oscar Taylor Bushong has been so illusive to research and finally who and why the Isaac Bushong as nephew is shown in the household of Joseph Arthur Bushong and his sister Amanda Bushong in the 1920 census. -------------------------------- OSCAR TAYLOR BUSHONG Born: 10 March 1875, Rappahannock County, Virginia, s/o Isaac Bushong & Sarah Swank Married: 12 June 1902, Spotsylvania County, Virginia Died: 17 March 1914, Unknown JULIA SIMS Born: 27 October 1879, Livingston, Spotsylvania County, d/o Isaac Rufus Sims and Margaret Ann Burke Died: 26 September 1921, Livingston, Spotsylvania County, Virginia Burial: Unknown -------------------------------- Julia, Florence and Cora Sims were the daughters of Isaac Rufus Sims and wife Margaret Ann Burke and are found in 1870 in Fauquier County and in 1880 in Spotsylvania County. 1870 Federal Census: Virginia 1st District, PO Warren, Fauquier County Enumerated 29 July 1870 Page 520A Lines 14-18, HH 749/746 I. Elmer Harrison and Cora Scott ------------------ In 1909 Oscar Taylor Bushong has fathered Isaac H. Bushong. I could not find any of the family in the 1910 census. In the 1920 census Julia Sims Bushong is living alone with her children in Culpeper County. She died in 1921. ------------------- 1910 Federal Census: Cannot find any of them in this census. I'm sure his wife was pretty mad at him at this point. ----------------- We tried to tract down an Isaac Bushong under that name in the 1910 census to no avail and we also looked at the various Cora's in the census in Culpeper County. There were a lot of Cora's but only one which peaked our interest and could be the sister Cora Sims with a child in the household at an age for a candidate as Isaac. She was married at this time to an older man. The child was born in New York where Oscar Taylor Bushong's brother Charles Lee Bushong was living at that time period. So did Cora go off to New York to have Isaac and then come back married as Mrs. Ellis Mills and is the child Ellis W. Mills really Isaac H. Bushong? I could not find any of them in the next census and of course we find Isaac living with his Aunt and Uncle Bushong. Just remember at this point, this is pure speculation and not proven as fact at all. The Annie Taylor acting as a nurse was a distant relative in the Bushong family. 1910 Federal Census: Virginia Cedar Mountain, Ed 17, Culpeper County Enumerated 5 May 1910 Page 105B, Sheet 13 Lines 15-99, HH 229/236 Ellis Mills Head/Male/White/52/Md14yrs/Farmer/OwnsFree/England/England/England CORA MILLS Female/White/43/2children1living/VA/VA/VA Ellis W.
