    1. [BOSCHONG] Jacob Bushong, s/o Jacob Bushong Sr. & Juliana Weigel, b. 16 February 1755, PA
    2. Boschong Subscribers, As you well know, I have been trying to research some of the Bushong girls in Stark County, Ohio who married out of the name. It is always harder research to find these girls. I have been spending a lot of time in Ohio census records because of this. The subject of the post that I am doing now was not on my agenda for today or any day in the future after the fuss over the past post about Samuel VS Jacob post. But, I am going to post this since we have new subscribers who have never seen this infor mation and while the past discussion is still fresh in everyone's mind. Back on 6 April 2000 on the Bushong Forum, Johnita P. Malone and I took a bold step and posted some information about our ancestors, her ancestor, the Revolutionary War Soldier Jacob Bushong who married Eve Bossert and ours being John Bushong Jr. Many of you don't know who she was, but Johnita was a very well respected genealogical researcher who published books and gave seminars on genealogy. She was extremely knowledgeable. She was a wonderful person to know. She died from cancer and I still miss our e-mail correspondences and phone calls. I have discovered some new information that may give Johnita's information new life. It all centers around Stark County, Ohio where the Revolutionary War Soldier is buried. Both Johnita and I have done total in-depth research on Jacob Bushong married to Eve Bossert since Jacob was her lineage and my husband Russell is from John Bushong Jr. married to Elizabeth lineage. She agreed that the 1754 baptismal record in Lancaster County, PA belonged to him and not to her lineage of Jacob Bushong. Because of the problem with the baptismal record, none of our relatives have been allowed to join DAR although SAR has recognized the lineage with our proof, so my husband was a member. Jacob Bushong married Eve Bossert who was probably born in Pendleton County, VA, now West Virginia. Her Bosserts came to this country in 1740 aboard the ship SAMUEL AND ELIZABETH and settled first in Northhampton County, Pennsylvania and then went down to Pendleton County, Virginia (now West Virginia) where you will find the father's Will and Deeds. There are also Deeds for his son-in-law Jacob Bushong there. Now to get on to what I have to say. I have a very good memory, almost photographic, which I inherited from my father. I'm not telling this as a brag, just as a fact of life which has been a blessing and a curse. I have an ability to remember what I have seen for years and I have sat for years looking page by page at census records searching for Bushongs. There is a life beyond Ancestry search index as they are not compete nor accurate! I believe that was proven in the last post where I sat and went page by page in Indiana looking for Barbara Bushong Warner and her husband William S. Warner in the 1860 census. You will not find them in the Ancestry index for that year. I pretty much know every family in the Augusta, Rockingham, Shenandoah, and Page County censuses that have anything to do with Bushongs, be it related as kin or as a neighbor or friend. Having this knowledge is a great help when jumping out of Virginia to other states in the census. I just finished going page by page through the 1830 census for all of Stark County, Ohio as I was looking for the husband's families of the Bushong girls who married out of their name. My thought was not on the Revolutionary War soldier at all but suddenly one thing struck me as I was looking at the different families in the townships in Stark. Here was another link in the lineage of Jacob Bushong married to Eve Bossert that makes another good argument for that Jacob to be the son of Jacob Bushong married to Juliana Weigel/Wigle. Most all of the Virginians that came to that Stark County area early on, seem to have come from the Augusta, Rockingham, Page County area, not so much Shenandoah and have links to the Bushongs through marriage or Deeds. Not any old Bushong family but the Jacob Bushong and Juliana Weigel, Peter Bushong and Barbara Wenger, and the Henry Bushong and Barbara Lohr families. Here are some of those names that dominate this county: Null, Saylor, Gouchenour, Miller, Early, Kline, Moyer, Myers, Harshberger, Hershberger, McCormick, Spitler, Bowers, Steele, Clinedist, Young, Weaver, Carr, Lower, Brown, Hoover, Nisewanger, Moffitt, Rice, Reese, Shoe, Hodge, Wenger, Strickler, Markley, Morehart, Roudabaugh, Rodabush, Wolf, Swartz, Graybill, Wentz, Dewalt, Hite, Conrad, Boyd, Summers, Frantz, just to name a few. These family names all lived in the southern part of Shenandoah county on the border between and in Rockingham, Pendleton, Augusta and Page counties. So now what does this mean? It means that Johnita and I were probably correct in our research. That Jacob Bushong married to Eve Bossert was the son of Jacob Bushong Sr. and Juliana Weigel just as we have always said. His birth date was probably: 16 February 1755 which puts him right in the age range that he claimed he was when he applied for his pension in Ohio. Now before you say well how can this be his baptismal record when there was a girl baptized 13 April of the same year for the same couple? Johnita gave one explanation and I will add to that. Lischy traveled around and possibly the girl was sick in February and so he came back in April to do the job. Sometimes they did baptize more then one child at one time. --------------- RESEARCH OF JOHNITA MALONE WITH HER OWN WORDS: 6 April 2000 I agree that John Jacob Bushong who married Elizabeth Windle was the son of JOHN BUSHONG and ELIZABETHA SPRINCKEL. It would certainly appear that Jacob Bushong who married Eva Catherine Bossert is the son of Jacob Bushong and Julliana Weigel. There is a baptism record for what appears to be this Jacob Bushong although it has been miswritten by the minister. It follows: 16 Feb 1755. Lischy's Private Record, pg 28. den 16 Febr. 1755. Infantes - Jacob; Parentes - Jacob Muller and Jullianna; Testes - Michel Welsch and Barbara. #507. (NOTE: From researcher, Eckhard Hensel, 111 Fisherman's Lane, Wrightsville, PA 17368: "Lischy's Private Record: Index. Now comes the clincher: Index says Bouchon on page 28 (actually Index says p. 29 but is 1 page "off".) But when you look in the text, there is no Bouchon. Then I decided to look at the first names of the parents, Jacob and Juliana, and sure enough there they are, Jacob and Julianna, but under the surname "Mueller". Either Rev. Lischy or later the transcriber/indexer or both, made errors on this entry. One possible explanation for the error is that there is another Mueller right above this entry. The son is called Jacob only, not John Jacob like the other in 1754. So this must be your Jacob. Sponsor is Michel Welsch. I also double checked through all the Muellers. Result: There is no Jacob and Julianna Mueller, nor any other Jacob Julianna combination as parents anywhere in that time period.") Upon looking at the original record, we find that Rev. Lishcy has written Mueller but probably in error, since there is no other Jacob and Julliana Mueller mentioned in Rev. Lischy's records but there are other records of Jacob and Julliana Bouchon, such as these that follow: 13 Apr 1755. York County, Pennsylvania Church Records of the 18th Century, Volume 3, by Marlene S. Bates and F. Edward Wright, Jacob Lischy's Private Pastoral Record, pg 232. Anna Margreth daughter of Jacob and Juliana Bouchon, was baptized 13 Apr 1755; sponsors: Michel Weiter and Elisabeth Weigel. 22 Aug 1756. York County, Pennsylvania Church Records of the 18th Century, Volume 3, by Marlene S. Bates and F. Edward Wright, Jacob Lischy's Private Pastoral Record, pg 238. Elisabeth daughter of Jacob and Jullianna Bouchon, was baptized 22 Aug 1756; sponsors: Elisabeth Weigel. 16 Dec 1759. York County, Pennsylvania Church Records of the 18th Century, Volume 3, by Marlene S. Bates and F. Edward Wright, Jacob Lischy's Private Pastoral Record, pg 250. Magdelena daughter of Jacob and Julianna Bouchon, was baptized 16 Dec 1759; sponsors: John Bouchon and Elisabeth. The Jacob, son of Jacob and Julliana, was baptized in 1755 but could have been born quite a bit earlier possibly as early as 1754. Jacob may have had occasion to meet and marry Eva Catherine Bossert because his father owned land in Pendleton Co., VA. 3 Apr 1812. Augusta County, VA., Will Book 11, pgs 124-126. Agreeable to an order of Court we the appraisers have made an Inventory of the Property of Jacob Bushong dec'd this third day of April one thousand eight hundred and twelf and is as follows viz. Appraisers - James Kirk, Daniel Fall, Christian Hottel. Ordered recorded on 22 Jun 1812. This Jacob and Julliana Bushong's children have been hard to trace since Jacob did not mention all his children's names in his will. A few hints are available in his estate records but not all of his 11 heirs have been found. Would love to correspond with anyone who thinks they may descend from this line. Johnita P.
